| | Joyce Breach Confessions CD Joyce Breach Discography of CDs
This is Joyce Breach's first Audiophile recording; Songbird was her first album, but it came out when she was residing in Pittsburgh (cassette only) on a local label and was later reissued by Audiophile -- hence the confusion in her discography. Accompanied by the Loonis McGlohan Quartet, the cabaret singer's sound is spick and span clean on an array of pop standards done with reverence. Breach's love for this style shows in her phrasing and understated enthusiasm. A few solids include getting her swing on with "I Wish I Was in Love Again"; "Bored," a lively track that defies its title; and "A Room With a View," which revisits what smooth jazz was before its redefinition in the '70s. Like all her CDs, Confessions' arrest-appeal increases with each track. Or is it that her angelic voice subtly hypnotizes you into the belief that this seemingly released from a time capsule singer is something special? ~ Andrew Hamilton

| | Royal Crown Revue Contender CD (1998)
Confessions songs
$9.39 Zoot suits? Black & white Brando movies? Las Vegas show bands? Sounds like something your parents would dig, right? Wrong. Royal Crown Revue is the coolest of a small crop of bands that struck gold with their own niche in post-alternative pop. THE CONTENDER is not a collection of grunge guitar and gloomy, unintelligible lyrics; this is hot jumpin' swing with razor sharp horns, big, fat grooves and the hippest lounge-style vocals this side of the casino circuit.
Make no mistake; this is no gimmick. These cats blow the roof off the joint with enough swagger and swing to make Frank, Sammy and Dino proud. The whole clambake starts with a bang as the title cut comes on like gangbusters. Check out the ace tremolo pickin' on the hard swinging "Zip Gun Bop (Reloaded)" and the Krupa-esque hide-beatin' on "Big Boss Lee" and you'll know these ...

| | Joey Defrancesco Organic Vibes CD (2006)
Confessions music CDs
$9.59 (MP3 Available for Download) Having reviewed some of Hammond organist Joey DeFrancesco's early albums on Columbia, then caught up with him again when he teamed up with the high-flying guitar acrobat Danny Gatton on Relentless, and then lost track of him, the word that comes to mind upon hearing this effort for Concord is "adult." DeFrancesco's earlier work was that of a young and precocious kid with a burning love of his instrument and something to prove. Fifteen years into what has become a celebrated career, he's settled in and is demonstrating the kind of taste and maturity that separates the flashy young hotshots from the serious musicians, the ones who will leave a legacy. On Organic Vibes, DeFrancesco goes beyond the traditional ...
