| | Staple Singers Too Close CD Staple Singers Discography of CDs
A nine song budget collection that brings together early Vee-Jay sides, live performances from both the late 1950s and early 1970s. The early sides are taken from vinyl and 78 shellac sources and exhibit a fair amount of surface noise, but the music in performances of "Too Close," "Good News," and "Don't Drive Me Away" move mountains and make all audiophile concerns somewhat mute. A nice little budget compilation that makes a nice addition to anyone's gospel collection. ~ Cub Koda
Includes liner notes by Marilyn A. Batchelor.
The Staple Singers: Roebuck "Pops" Staples (vocals, guitar); Mavis Staples, Cleo Staples, Pervis Staples, Yvonne Staples (vocals).
Compilation producer: Rev. Milton Biggham.

Purchase Too Close CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Shakira She Wolf CD (2009)
Too Close album
$11.18 Last time around, Shakira touched upon so many styles she couldn't be contained on one album, splitting Oral Fixation in two. This time, she focuses on one sound only: a pulsating electro-disco that crosses all boundaries and welcomes all nationalities. Such concentration behooves Shakira, freeing her to release her inner She Wolf, a wild wacko who's as coo coo as she is carnal. And for as sexy as Shakira is -- crucially, her music is sexy too -- what really gives She Wolf its bite is her inspired nuttiness, how she laments that Matt Damon's not meant for her, and wishes her ex-lover and his new girl a horrible vacation where the room smells and the toilet doesn't flush. "Darling, it is no joke, this is lycanthropy," she sings on the title track with no small trace of humor, and this blend of cheerful weirdness and sick beats -- often supplied by the Neptunes, delivering tough, sensual rhythms in a way they haven't in a long time, but also John Hill and Wyclef Jean -- is giddily addicting, a celebration of all the strange sensuality that comes out at night. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

| | Luther Vandross This Is Christmas CD (1995)
Too Close CD music
$6.39 This stellar 1995 Christmas album is not your typical release of holiday standards. In fact, Luther helped pen most of the songs on this album. His originals include the excellent "With a Christmas Heart," "This Is Christmas," and "A Kiss for Christmas." But for those with an allegiance to the standards, "My Favorite Things" and "O' Come All Ye Faithful" are duly included among these 10 lovely tracks. Well-known bassist/arranger/producer Marcus Miller plays on some of the tracks, while well-coifed '80s rock balladeer Richard Marx ...

Too Close songs
$7.59 Principally recorded at Record One Studios & Larrabee Studios, Los Angeles, California. Originally released on Epic/Sony (45400).
Digitally remastered by Bernie Grundman (Bernie Grundman Mastering, Los Angeles, California).
After a lengthy gap of nearly five years, Jackson had to pull something out of the bag. BAD was, after all, a difficult act to follow, and the press were trying to prove he was bonkers. This was a pretty decent attempt and fell in with the hard dance beat of the early 90s. "Heal The World" was much like the old melodic Jackson, and it became a major hit. "Black Or White" was the best of the rest, a well-constructed song in which he attempted to repeat "Ebony And Ivory" in the context of 90s dance music.

Too Close music CDs
$12.89 This 20 track collection gathers together all of R&B/soul singer Jesse James' best songs from the past two decades, including a remix and also the original of his hit "I Can Do Bad By Myself", as well as original versions of songs "Believe In Me Baby" an
For an obscure American soul singer who can't even be classified as a one-hit wonder, this is a very optimistic import of his most significant recordings. 20th Century released an album by James in 1968, and an import, Looking Back, dropped in 1990. Many of the tracks from those two LPs can be found here. His thin voice makes many of the tracks sound similar; James is easier to take in small doses, a track here, a track there. However, a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes and some of the tracks are brilliant. On "I Never Meant to Love ...

$16.45 Big, Wet Sloppy World was recorded at the turn of the Millennium at the old Audio Arts Recording on South Congress Avenue. Audio Arts shared a wall with the Continental Club and a lot of the recording was done during Toni Price\'s happy hour. This is a happy, whimsical CD that covers a variety of topics and styles. The instrumentation includes Stephan Paetzold on violin, Nina Singh on drums and backing vocals, Boomer Norman on guitar and features guest appearances by trombonist Jon Blondell (featured on Sublime\'s hit \"The Wrong Way\"), banjo ...
