(4 Customer Reviews)
In addition to energized versions of such treasured Christmas songs as "Go Tell It on the Mountain" and "Silent Night," Franklin & the Family contribute several non-traditional songs that explore the depth of God's love and the Christian basis for the holiday. "Now Behold the Lamb," for example, is a ballad that testifies to the truth of salvation, and features stirring ensemble singing, strong solo vocalists, and plenty of enthusiastic exclamations. The deeply funky "Jesus Is the Reason for the Season" kicks things up a notch with its bumping rhythm and infectious chorus. With its mix of old and new musical styles and its impassioned performances, CHRISTMAS is sure to please those looking for a meaningful and musically fresh holiday album.
Contemporary gospel star Kirk Franklin made one of his most accessible and commercially successful records with CHRISTMAS. From Franklin's heartfelt spoken-word intro to the breezy, smoothed-out version of "O Come All Ye Faithful," CHRISTMAS blends devout Christian messages and the power of traditional gospel with contemporary R&B and hip-hop flavors. It's no coincidence that Franklin's 17-piece chorus is called "the Family," because the entire record is suffused with the warmth and intimacy of a family-oriented holiday event.

A must have 4 the gospel loving music person I've always loved Kirk's music and this cd is nothing short of being one of the good ones he will/has come out with. Bought cd cause of 1 song which warms my soul over and over again-(#2 Now Behold the Lamb) but don't cut the rest of the other songs short because the whole cd is good. I'll probably listen to it all the time even after Christmas and play it even louder during the Christmas season. Submitted by a reviewer (Wadley, AL, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Christmas album
$8.99 THE NU NATION PROJECT won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Soul Gospel Album and was nominated for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. "Lean On Me" was nominated for a 1999 Grammy for Song Of The Year, Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal and Best R&B Song.
In the '90s, Kirk Franklin emerged as the spearhead of the New Gospel movement that combined funky, contemporary urban sounds with spiritually oriented lyrical themes and won a whole new generation of fans for contemporary Christian music. If you took away the theological slant of the lyrics, THE NU NATION PROJECT would seem like a high-end R&B album, full of state-of-the-art production, a ...

Christmas CD music
$8.99 Recorded live at Calvary Temple, Dallas, Texas; Tree Studios, Atlanta, Georgia; We Fly Studios, Los Angeles, California; Aire L.A. Studios, Glendale, California.
WHATCHA LOOKIN' 4 won the 1997 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Soul Gospel Album.
Proving that some things are well worth the wait, WHATCHA LOOKIN' 4, recorded in 1994 and released two years later, successfully combines danceable hip-hop backgrounds with sanctified lyrics. Kirk Franklin is one of gospel's leading choir songwriter/arrangers (he's written for the DFW Mass Choir, Georgia Mass Choir and GMWA National Mass Choir, among others). Here he gives much of the spotlight to The Family, which shows off both standard and innovative vocal inflections and part divisions.
While WHATCHA LOOKIN' 4 is a must-have ...
| | Kirk Franklin & The Family CD (1993)
Christmas music CDs
$8.99 Recorded live at Grace Temple Church, Fort Worth, Texas on July 25, 1992. Includes liner notes by Drew Dawson.
The young Kirk Franklin deftly leads his Family through inspirational and uplifting gospels. Recorded live at the Grace Temple Church in Fort Worth, Texas, Kirk preaches to and leads his devoted followers through positive musical sermons driven by his lyric "I sing because I'm happy! I sing because I'm free...Jesus...you're the reason why I sing."
Obviously, the themes are all religious, and from "He's Able" to "He Can Handle It," there is no doubt as to who is running the show. In "Silver And Gold," the theme is "I'd rather have Jesus than silver and gold"; on "Real Love," it is "will you ever love somebody the way that Jesus loves you?"
Kirk steps aside and allows other featured ...

| | Beyonce Dangerously In Love CD (2003)
Christmas album
$9.59 DANGEROUSLY IN LOVE won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album. "Dangerously In Love" won for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. "The Closer I Get To You" won for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals. "Crazy In Love" won for Best R&B Song and for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. The song was also nominated for Record of the Year.
Besides deft, pitch-perfect hit songs, the talented if volatile Destiny's Child was remarkable for its unpredictability, not always a defining characteristic of mainstream R&B. While there was certainly a formula at play in the songs, the structure was subtly unstable, never following standard progressions. Yet most of their singles flew to the top of both the pop and R&B charts. While DC was generally a collective, Beyonce Knowles clearly emerged as the most high-profile member, even before major turns on the big screen, signaling ...

| | Pepper Kona Town CD (2002)
Christmas songs
$12.29 From Blondie to the Police to the Clash, plenty of rockers have been influenced by reggae over the years -- and that isn't counting all the ska-punk bands that emerged in the '80s and '90s. Pepper certainly isn't the first band to blend alternative rock, punk, and reggae, but while the Hawaiian trio's second album, Kona Town, isn't groundbreaking, it is definitely above average -- not to mention quite likable. Although not innovative, Pepper isn't one of those faceless, cookie-cutter ska-punk combos that sets out to emulate the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, but isn't nearly as impressive. Pepper is smart enough to do its own thing, and that means having an attractive sound that could be described as the Police by way of Steel Pulse by way of punk-pop. Overall, the tunes on this Steve Kravac-produced disc are memorable; when ...
