This German indie collective existed somewhat out of time -- the music on Terra Incognita suggests a German rock sound of the '70s rather than the '90s -- so one could say they are picking up on the experimental tradition of Can, Faust, and Popul Vuh. Creating elaborate drones from low-tech electronics, processed acoustic instrumentation, and vague traces of songs, this album is a highly recommended listen for fans of the experimental and lo-fi tangents of the underground miasma. Casual and euphoric music which has a lucid joy and infatuation with itself, yet never loses the edge of simplicity, much like Flying Saucer Attack, Tower Recordings, and Richard Youngs. ~ Martin Walters

| | U2 No Line On The Horizon CD (2009)
Terra Incognita songs
$10.49 There's no shortage of legendary producers in line to work with music world titans U2; when work with Rick Rubin broke off, Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois stepped in. The resulting NO LINE ON THE HORIZON, 2009's offering from the Irish rockers, continues in the grand U2 tradition, as soaring pop anthems like opening single "Get on Your Boots" pair with experimental melanges like "Tripoli," on a striking album featuring touches of all the albums come before, yet hinting at new worlds for Bono to conquer.
After spending the 1990s experimenting with electronic music and returning to arena-ready rock during the first few years of the 21st century, U2 stakes out territory somewhere between those two points on 2009's NO LINE ON THE HORIZON. Enlisting its go-to production trio of Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois, and Steve Lillywhite, the Irish quartet seems intent on crafting a quirkier companion piece to HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB, and they succeed with restless tracks such as ...

Terra Incognita album
$16.45 It was too many years ago, and I remember the Monday nights at the Cornelia Street Songwriters Exchange. Lucy Kaplansky and I had recently arrived in Greenwich Village from Chicago where we had been playing the clubs on Lincoln Avenue. That seems like another lifetime ago. I wrote quite a few songs to play for the Exchange, a couple of which are on this recording. A few of the people that used to regularly attend the Exchange are still out there playing. I sometimes surprise them at performances. The Cornelia Street Café is still very much alive and well in Greenwich Village, a fact that gives me great comfort. Most of the places I played back in the day, like Folk City, for example, are long gone. However, enough nostalgia. Suffice it to say that many years ago I wrote many songs, and played them many times in many clubs. And then, as John Lennon once wrote in one of his lyrics: "Life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans". I wound up traveling a different path, and the music kind of drifted away from me. I migrated away from NYC, eventually moving to West Virginia where I live now---immersed in a completely different career and a beautiful and wonderful wife, living a beautiful and wonderful life. But although the music drifted away from me in that I couldn't play every day, the songs stayed in my heart and mind over the years. I can't put my finger on the ...
