| | Greensleeves Rhythm Album Vol. 2: Virus CD - Import
The second in the Greensleeves series of single-riddim records, Virus was produced by the Madd Dawgz production team, and laid down by drummer Mikey Williamson and keyboardists Tony Thomas and Christopher Meredith. Stripped back but bristling with menace, this riddim infected a slew of DJs, old hands succumbing alongside such newcomers as Lexxus, Kiprich, Madd Anju, Egg Nog, and Frassman. The sweet, romantic Delon help listeners identify the riddim's antecedents, Britney Spears' "One More Time," but few others will nod in that direction. Instead, the mighty Capleton sets the standard with his ferocious "Caan Hold We Dung." Mad Cobra lays down the law to women, while Degree is surrounded by "pure sexy bodies," Elephant Man by women troubles, but there's only one woman for Red Rat. Madd Anju is mad about them all, and can't comprehend why other men don't all feel the same. Mr. Vegas, meanwhile, will have all the girls down to their "Itsy Bitsy"s in no time, except the girls who like the girls whom Foxy Cat complains about. It's still early days yet, but this kind of gay bashing will come back to haunt the whole dancehall scene. But at the time, it was the calls of "fire bun" that was exciting condemnations, even so Hawkeye adds to the flames; there's no stopping him, nor an equally powerful Goofy. One could try dousing a particularly belligerent Alley Cat, but it's doubtful you could put out his incendiary toast either. With a fiery riddim and storming performances, Virus is the standard for this series; it should run for years. ~ Jo-Ann Greene

Greensleeves Rhythm Album Vol. 2: Virus
$6.79 When he signed with Epic Records in the late '80s, Alice Cooper scored his biggest hit in years, 1989's platinum TRASH (which spawned the top-ten hit single "Poison"). While his next two releases (1991's HEY STOOPID and 1994's LAST TEMPTATION) didn't match the success of his Epic debut, Cooper retained his core audience and remained one of heavy metal's perennial concert attractions. With material from three albums to choose from, Epic assembled a greatest-hits package, 1995's CLASSICKS, which also ...
| | Yellowman Just Cool CDs (1999)
Greensleeves Rhythm Album Vol. 2: Virus
$17.59 Yellowman released an astounding 13 albums in 1982 so it's no big surprise that Just Cool got lost in the shuffle. Time has not been kind to the album either. Since its release it fell into the world of grey market releases and bargain bin reissues that would change the album's title or package the tracks with other stray releases. On top of all this, toaster Fathead has never really been properly credited on the album since the splitting of work is only about 60-40 in Yellowman's favor. Fathead gets short shrift because Just Cool is designed to latch onto King Yellow's popularity at the time, not only by its cover art and billing but also by the leadoff cut "Getting Divorce," the bitter sequel to Yellowman's huge hit "I'm Getting Married"." While it's far and away the most memorable cut, the rest of the album features plenty of sharp interplay between the two clever DJs and presents it in a raw manner ...
