How often can a debut artist boast of working with the likes of superstar songwriters like Babyface and Diane Warren? 18-year-old Mya can. Aided by top-notch talent including Dru Hill's Sisqo and Nokio and Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliot ("Bye-Bye"), Mya holds up her end of the bargain by delivering one of the sweetest voices in music today. The depth expressed in her songs is impressive for a person of such a young age.
In addition, Mya brings writing skills to the table, co-writing four songs. "It's All About Me," featuring Sisqo, exploded on urban and Top 40 radio. That's not even mentioning "Ghetto Supastar," featuring Pras (Fugees) and Ol' Dirty Bastard (Wu-Tang Clan), which appears on the soundtrack to BULWORTH. Not only are the songs smartly arranged and well crafted, the overall sound of the album is as tight as any contemporary R&B record around.

Mya Music Review Average Rating: (4.2 out of 5 stars) What Happend 2 Her? I Always liked Aaliyah Brandy and Monica. Then Mya came out and i was like shes a little diffrent form them but she was cool to me to. But this is the only CD i think is pretty dame good bye her. Like was wasnt THAT bad of a singger her voice had something cool about it and most of the songs on this CD are pretty touching. Now today on her CDs 99% of her songs are about sex. On this CD the songs were about LOVE not SEX. Im only 16 ok but love 90s RnB/Hip Hop, because today everyone in my class lissens to crappy singgers on the radio i wont name them cuz im not mean like that. But anyway i dont care what anyone says SEX is not LOVE. And music often has that mix today. But shame on Mya for falling into that trap. And were is she now the last i herd was her last CD was only came out in Japan if that tell you anything. She could have done more with her music and now here we are 10 years latter and shes gone Submitted by Jesse Latimer (Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Sounds Good... I definately could hear Monica and 702 back in the days singing some of her joints. Mya needs a style specifically for her but the album it's slef seems to make a good teenage houseparty saler. Submitted by brakethechain2000 (VA 2 GA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Mya I remember this album when I was 11 and I loved "It's All About Me".This CD shows Mya's range and her musical stylings. This album proves it. The songs are expressed in her own way of saying things. This album is for her as from a teenager to an adult. MYA is an promising debut. Mya album
$6.75 This album finds Jermaine "JD" Dupri behind the boards for four tracks, including "All About Me" and "My Little Secret." Other producer/writers on the project include Diane Warren ("The Arms of the One Who Loves You"), Daryl Simmons ("The Runaround") and Babyface ("Your Eyes"). The vocals of Kandi Burruss, Tamika and LaTocha Scott and Tameka "Tiny" Cottle are mature, reaching far beyond the massive teen appeal that surrounds them. TRACES OF MY LIPSTICK finds the girls soft and sultry at times ("Softest Place on Earth"), while the Jeep-beat stomp of "Do You Know" shows their vocal diversity. With this brilliant recording, Xscape ...
| | Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill CD (1998)
Mya CD music
$9.59 THE MISEDUCATION OF LAURYN HILL won the 1999 Grammy Award for Album Of The Year and Best R&B Album. Lauryn Hill won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best New Artist. "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You" was nominated for the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. "Doo Wop (That Thing)" won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song. "Nothing Even Matters" was nominated for a 1999 Grammy for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. "Lost Ones" was nominated for a 1999 Grammy for Best Rap Solo Performance. "Everything Is Everything" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
Lauryn Hill is far from miseducated, as her solo debut album proves. With both critical and popular acclaim from her affiliation with the Fugees, Lauryn uses THE MISEDUCATION OF LAURYN HILL to make a definitive individual statement. The focus here is love: love of self, love of her son, the love of her life, love of hip-hop. Her powerful lyrics and vocal talent put her in a class by herself.
One of hip-hop's more strong-willed artists, Lauryn's positivity defies the '90s materialistic rap scene. Although there is much more singing ...
| | Brandy Never Say Never CD (1998)
Mya music CDs
$6.15 NEVER SAY NEVER was nominated for a 1999 Grammy Award for Best R&B Album. "The Boy Is Mine" won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal, and was nominated for Record Of The Year and Best R&B Song. "Almost Doesn't Count" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
Avoiding the dreaded sophomore slump, Brandy delivers a fresh-sounding, well- crafted second album that sounds as much like pop as it does R&B. NEVER SAY NEVER features a song, "Have You Ever?," that was written by mega-songstress Diane Warren and produced by super-producer David Foster. The lead single, "The Boy is Mine" is a duet with fellow R&B'er Monica. Keeping up with the trend of big-time collaborations, multi-platinum rapper Mase makes an appearance on "Top of the World," which seems custom made for jeep jockeys.
Although sprinkled with other contributors, most of the album was produced by Rodney Jerkins. With a focus that is sometimes lost on a follow-up to a smashing debut, Brandy's composure and experience shine through in a product that is 16 songs deep. ...

Mya songs
$7.59 "The Boy Is Mine" won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal, and was nominated for Record Of The Year and Best R&B Song.
This College Park, Atlanta native began singing in her church choir when she was merely four years old. If you look at it from that perspective, the young singer is practically a veteran. She certainly sounds it on THE BOY IS MINE, a spicy R&B offering that brims with precociousness. Though Monica's got the vocal chops to carry the album alone, she's not afraid to expand the sonic palette a bit by working with a couple of carefully chosen guest artists. The title tune finds her in a duet with another young R&B sensation, Brandy, and the two women's voices make a perfect match. On "Gone Be Fine," Monica injects a little hip-hop into the mix, calling upon the substantial rapping talents of Outkast. Clive Davis himself co-produced THE BOY IS MINE, proof positive that Monica's talents have inspired as much confidence from the music industry as they have created admirers among R&B listeners.

| | Total Kima, Keisha & Pam CD (1998)
Mya album
$9.09 On their second album, '90s soul sistas JaKima Raynor, Keisha Spivey, and Pam Long sex up their lives, and everything around them, quite a bit. Turning their fairly standard take on the hip-hop girl group into a late-night bath of delight, they invite a who's-who roster into the tub with them (producers here include Missy Elliott, Sean "Puffy" Combs, and Heavy D, among others). The best track, "Trippin'," is an Elliott-produced slice of robotic R&B that combines the gals' sweet harmonies with state-of-the-soul-art studio savvy. But the studio-powered Kima, Keisha & Pam ultimately loses its individuality while trying to be a part of the streets and scene, brimming with the sounds of the world around it. ~ Michael Gallucci
On their second album, these '90s soul sistas sex up their lives, and everything around them, quite a bit, turning their fairly standard take on the hip-hop girl group into a late-night bath of delight. But by inviting a who's-who roster into the tub with them (producers here include Missy Elliott, Sean "Puffy" Combs, and Heavy D, among others), Total -- the JaKima Raynor, Keisha Spivey, and Pam Long of the title -- are barely heard. | | Dru Hill Enter The Dru CD (1998)
Mya CD music
$10.49 On their sophomore effort, Sisqo, Nokio, Woody and Jazz drop another gem. Following up on their 1996 debut, ENTER THE DRU finds Dru Hill delivering the same cutting-edge R&B that has made them a worldwide success. Contributions from some of the most talented contemporary writers and producers make ENTER THE DRU a hard album to resist. Super-hitmaker Babyface co-wrote and co-produced the first single, "These Are the Times," while David Foster co-produced the Diane Warren ballad "What Do I Do With The Love." Wu-Tang's Method Man flips a verse on "This Is What We Do."
There are plenty of trademark Dru Hill ballads such as "One Good Reason," "I'll Be The One' and "What Are We Gonna Do." Be sure to check out the Daryl Simmons-produced "The Love We Had (Stays On My Mind)," which is a cover of a classic Dells song. With the huge success of their debut album, one can imagine the inherent difficulty in following it up. ENTER THE DRU is everything Dru Hill fans could want and more.
Producers include: Dru Hill, Dutch, Daryl Simmons, Warryn "Smiley" Campbell, Babyface.

| | South Park Mexican Time Is Money CD (2000)
Mya music CDs
$11.89 For his first album under his distribution deal with Universal Records, South Park Mexican seems quite comfortable with his increasing popularity, rapping like a veteran here. It's nice to hear him handling most of the album's rapping duties after his previous release, The Purity Album, seemed more like a compilation issued under his name. The production is a bit more polished here than on previous SPM albums, and the rhymes flow much more fluidly than ever before, making it arguably the most well-crafted SPM album to date. If there is one major problem, though, it involves SPM's level of comfort -- he almost seems too comfy here, knowing that he's finally crossed over into major label territory. One somewhat misses the inspired efforts of older, rawer albums such as Hustle Town. ~ Jason Birchmeier
"Houston native South Park Mexican is a cult hero in his home state of Texas with his old school rhyming style and beats influenced by old-school legends N.W.A. The Texan was hoping to break out of the Lone Star State with ...
