This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
Limp Bizkit made their reputation through hard work, touring the hell out of their debut album Three Dollar Bill Y'All and thereby elevating themselves to the popularity status of their similarly rap-inflected, alt-metal mentors Korn. With their second album, Significant Other, they come close to reaching Korn's artistic level; at the very least, it's considerably more ambitious and multi-dimensional than Three Dollar Bill. Limp Bizkit, of course, hasn't abandoned their testosterone-overloaded signature sound, they've just built around it. There are flourishes of neo-psychedelia on pummeling metal numbers and there are swirls of strings, even crooning, at the most unexpected background. All of it simply enhances the force of their rap-metal attack, which can get a little tedious if it's unadorned. Not so coincidentally, the enlarged sonic palette also serves as emotional coloring for Fred Durst's lyrics. He broke up with his longtime girlfriend -- his Significant Other, if you will -- during the writing of the album, and his anguish is apparent throughout the record, as almost every song is infused with the guilt, anger, and regret that was churned up in the wake of separation. That, however, gives the impression that this is an alt-metal Blood on the Tracks. It's not. Nevertheless, it does have more emotional weight than Three Dollar Bill, along with more effective, adventurous music. More importantly, it balances these new concerns with trace elements of their juvenile humor along with the overpowering aggro rap-metal that is their stock in trade. Which makes it a rare artistic leap forward that will still please audiences that just want more of the same. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Smashing the sophomore jinx, Limp Bizkit puts together a screaming second album in SIGNIFICANT OTHER. The band's songwriting has matured, and the experience of touring is evident in the production. Singer Fred Durst is a frontman for the next millennium, combining hardcore metal with the slickness of hiphop. Limp Bizkit is backed by the turntable skills of House Of Pain's DJ Lethal. You can hear the hiphop influences in almost every track--from the lead single, "Nookie," to the DJ Premier-produced "N 2 Gether Now." Other highlights include "Break Stuff," "Just Like This," and "I'm Broke." Be sure to check out the Durst-directed video for "Nookie," as it shows just how multi-talented Limp Bizkit really is.

Rolling Stone (7/8-22, pp.143-144) - 3 1/2 Stars (out of 5) - "...at this point, hating them seems a little disingenuous. They're actually (gulp) good."
Entertainment Weekly (6/18/99, pp.74-75) - "...It takes it cues from hardcore hip-hop...grunge...the post-80's metal of Metallica, and, to a lesser degree, electronica....But overall, SIGNIFICANT OTHER isn't simply modern rock; it's postmodern rock..." - Rating: B
CMJ (6/28/99, p.5) - "...[SIGNIFICANT OTHER] has an intensity that never lets up, surpassing the musical scope of its predecessor with rap-core gems such as "Nookie" and the blunted hip-hop of..."N 2 Gether Now"....The unholy matrimony of metal and rap celebrates another victory...superb..."

3 stars It's good.
I love how people always write 6 lines of text thinking they are "dropping knowledge" on us or something. I know what metal is and I know what hip hop is, I like both. But anyway this is a good album, just to chill to it isn't fantastic nor is it complete garbage. Get it if you want something that is just good to listen to. -peace

5 stars The Best album of all time!!!
This album not only got me out of the lame @$$ overhyped bubblegum pop music of that era (1996-2000), but it introduced me to a whole new world: that of which is hard hitting heavy hard world of rock n' roll. This album has balls. No other way to describe it. From the intro leading into "Just Like This" to the hilarious yet meaningful "Nookie" , to the notorious "Break Stuff", this album has it all. Limp Bizkit is not only my favorite band, but has released an album that whether you loved it or hated it, will be in the hearts of all heavy music fans forever. The songs are so emotional, heavy, and deep. The riffs and guitar and bass work on this album were amazing. The drumming is compelling, and the sampling is some of the best sampling ever made. My opinion: This album is worth every penny. Pick it up and add it to your CD album collection today.

1 star bad...
Look: we're talking about metal here. Metal is supposed te be rough and technically really good. Metal isn't meant to be hiphop. I know a lot of people (A LOT) who already listen to metal very long; and they all HATE limp bizkit. Musically; limp bizkit is nothing. Theu have NO talent. Listen to any other metal band and it's better. Limp Bizkit is broadcasted on MTV and then they say it's rock, so little 12 year old kids who want to be cool can put on a Limp Bizkit shirt and pretent to be alternative. NO WAY!!! Limp Bizkit is as mainstream as Britney Spears, and even less talented If you think Wes Borland is a good guitar player. NOT Listen to Children of Bodom if you want to hear guitars. Limp Bizkit is more hiphop then Metal. Metal isn't meant to be commercial; and it's NEVER meant to be mixed up with hiphop. If you want to hear good nu-metal; check out Korn, Slipknot, Ill Nino, Sepultura or System of a Down. If you ARE a Limp Bizkit fan, try listening to Ill Nino. There isn't that much difference, with the exception that Ill NINO is music; and Limp Bizkit is not. And Limp Bizkit is not cool and alto's don't like you if you wear a Limp Bizkit shirt. Go to a Slipknot concert in a Limp Bizkit shirt and you'll be beaten up. If you just listen to Limp Bizkit because you think it's heavy; listen to Slipknot then you don't have to pretent to be cool because you listen to Metal; then you ARE cool. A personal hint of mine: check out Melodic Gothenburg Death Metal bands; like In Flames; Arch Enemy; Children of Bodom or Soilwork; or check out Marilyn Manson. THAT'S MUSIC!!!

Considered by many to literally be The Heaviest Band In The World, Electric Wizard is more like a cult than a band. The Wizard conjure up visions of Alistair Crowley having a black trip with HP Lovecraft, whilst gazing at the most far out biker flicks ever created. This, combined with the crustiest gravity defying Doom riffs and drones, Electric Wizard have one mission: To Destroy! Plastic Head. This debut release from U.K. death metal band Electric Wizard includes the songs "Stone Magnet" and "Morning Prayer."
Japanese version includes an extra song.
Eternal, Thy Grief Eternal, and Lord of Putrefaction: D&D characters? Possibly. But they're better known as the bands that preceded and eventually morphed into Electric Wizard, the ensemble that dominated if not out-and-out created the "stoner metal" genre. This compilation gathers some of the best tracks from these two bands, and the extreme, bass-heavy sound; fuzzed-out guitars; and Alastair Crowley-cum-Led Zep lyrics provide apt foreshadowing for what was to come. The is music for Black Masses and dark maguses.
