Primus: Les Claypool (vocals, kazoo, fretless bass); Larry Lalonde (guitar); Tim "Herb" Alexander (drums). Recorded at Coast Recorders, San Francisco, California. Personnel: Les Claypool (vocals, kazoo). Recording information: Coast Recorders, San Francisco, CA. What makes this 5-song EP of covers Primus's best release is the material. For once, Les Claypool's crew plays actual songs instead of sketching out a few ideas as an excuse for jamming. As a result, Miscellaneous Debris isn't as weird and alienating as previous albums, and often their reinterpretations -- from the clever ribbing of XTC's "Making Plans for Nigel" and Pink Floyd's "Have A Cigar" to the relatively respectful readings of The Meters, the Residents and Peter Gabriel's "Intruder" -- show flashes of brilliance, largely due to the loose yet focused musicianship. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Primus spent nearly an entire year in support of their breakthrough SAILING THE SEAS OF CHEESE release, so to keep longtime fans satisfied, the trio issued the five-track EP MISCELLANEOUS DEBRIS in 1992. Comprised entirely of cover tunes, MISCELLANEOUS DEBRIS catches the trio at their loosest and most fun. Highlights include great covers of XTC's "Making Plans for Nigel" and the Meters' "Tippi Toes." MISCELLANEOUS DEBRIS would not be the last time Primus covered their favorite artists, as evidenced by the 1998 release RHINOPLASTY. | | Primus Sailing The Seas Of Cheese CD (1991)
Miscellaneous Debris
$6.49 Primus: Les Claypool (vocals, bass); Larry "Ler" LaLonde (guitar); Tim "Herb" Alexander (drums). Additional personnel: Tom Waits (vocals); Mike Bordin, Butt House. The first Primus album to achieve much widespread airplay (thanks to its release on a major), and the one that broke them on MTV, Sailing the Seas of Cheese completely redefined the possibilities of the electric bass in rock music for those who'd never heard the group before. Slapping like a funk player, but strumming power chords and finger-tapping like a metal guitar ...

Miscellaneous Debris
$11.09 ,+1 Bonus Track
Primus: Les Claypool (vocals, acoustic bass guitar, bass guitar); Larry LaLonde (acoustic guitar, electric guitar); Tim "Herb" Alexander (drums). Primus' first studio album wouldn't necessarily be a surprise to anyone familiar with their Suck on This days, not least because a good chunk of that album ended up being represented here. Not that this was surprising, but what was pleasant was how well and easily the at-once frenetic and extremely precise way the trio had around its spastic rhythms, translated into a great effort away from the stage. Certainly the fact that Les Claypool had once tried out for ...

| | Sun Ra Second Star To The Right: Salute To Walt Disney CD (1989)
Miscellaneous Debris
$15.05 Recorded in Austria in 1989. Sun Ra and his Intergalaxtic Arkestra's Second Star to the Right: Salute to Walt Disney goes way beyond novelty. Novelties are hardly this entertaining or enduring. Ra got into a Disney phase around 1989 when asked to interpret "Pink Elephants on Parade" from Dumbo for a pop tribute album to Disney called Stay Awake. Ra was so taken with Disney's music and images that he started to play shows dedicated exclusively to the man. When performing this material, the Arkestra went so far as ...
| | Skinny Puppy Too Dark Park CD (1990)
Miscellaneous Debris
$11.99 Skinny Puppy: N. Ogre, Cevin Key, D. Rudolph Goettel. Additional personnel: Rave, Green Guy (guitar); Greg Reely (piano); Mr D. Pleven (bass). When Ministry and the Revolting Cocks were offering what could be described as industrial noise for people who weren't industrial fans, Skinny Puppy continued to thrive on the extreme and remained far to the left of rock's center. Employing more bass than Puppy's previous albums, Too Dark Park has a ...
| | Drowning Pool Desensitized CD (2004)
Miscellaneous Debris
$7.59 Drowning Pool includes: Jason "Gong" Jones (vocals). Drowning Pool: Jason Jones (vocals); Stevie Benton (bass guitar); C.J. Pierce, Mike Luce. Personnel: C.J. Pierce (guitar); Mike Luce (drums). Audio Mixer: Randy Staub . Recording information: Groovemaster Recording, Chicago, IL; Ocean Studios, Burbank, CA. Desensitized doesn't dwell directly on Dave Williams' death. The fallen singer is remembered in the liners, and the band's search for the reason behind his untimely demise seems to drive tracks like "This Life" and "Numb." But for the most part Drowning ...

Audio Mixers: David Stanton; Douglas Rice; Aaron Mullan. Recording information: Echo Canyon. Awesome Color is a power trio from Brooklyn but their original and spiritual home is in the Midwest; the Midwest where drums sound like they're pounded with tree limbs, where angry, ugly guitars and snarled, over-amped vocals rule the day, and the Stooges rule with a leather ...
