Enrique Iglesias' Interscope debut Enrique was designed to be a massive crossover success, breaking him to the pop audience that devoured Ricky Martin and "Livin' la Vida Loca." So, the Latin roots were pushed to the background and the record leaned heavily on mainstream dance-pop and adult contemporary ballads. Iglesias and Andres Restrepo served as executive producers, overseeing a number of producers whose work all sounds fairly cohesive. That may be because each specialized in a certain area: dancefloor numbers or slow-burners. It's all impeccably crafted and appealing, the way a big-budget record like this should be. Song wise, there are a couple of stretches that are a little rote but not unappealing, and for the most part, the tunes are endearing; as a matter of fact, the first breakthrough hit, "Bailamos," pales in comparison with much of the first half of the album, including "Rhythm Divine," "I Have Always Loved You," and "Oyeme." If Enrique doesn't pack a knock-out punch, it's because it wasn't structured that way. It was made to be a sturdy and satisfying mainstream crossover effort, and that's exactly what it is. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Enrique Iglesias does his illustrious family proud with the spirited, dance club-friendly ENRIQUE. Already having made a well-received resurfacing with "Bailamos" on the WILD WILD WEST soundtrack, this hunky singer has clearly grown up a bit and sounds better than ever on this fully bilingual production. And the GroovEntertainment Weekly (12/3/99, p.99) - "...impeccable....heartfelt and romantic, making dancefloor demands somewhere between a samba and a sway....Iglesias may find gold in the middle of the road." - Rating: B+ Q (2/00, p.89) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...sounds uncannily like Chris Isaak throughout, boasts a fine set of pipes, strums some outrageously lovely Spanish guitar, and ensures there's enough pure corn to keep Dad happy. Slightly better than you might expect." Enrique Iglesias Enrique Songs Purchase Enrique CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Backstreet Boys Millenium CD (1999)

Enrique
$22.65 R.E.M.,Andy Kaufman,Tony Clif- Ton,Bob James,Exile,Sandpipers
Original score composed by R.E.M. "The Great Beyond" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media. Personnel: Liane Reynolds-Mautner (violin). Audio Mixers: Clif Norrell; Paul Falcone; Joel Moss ; John Richards; Patrick McCarthy; Scott Litt; Jamie Candiloro. Photographer: François Duhamel. Arrangers: Bob James; Charlie Brissette. It could be argued that without REM's hit single "Man on the Moon" there wouldn't have been an Andy Kaufman biopic in 1999, so it was only appropriate that director Milos Forman hired the band to write the score for his film. Based on score excerpts on the Man on the Moon soundtrack, they've made some intriguing music, drawing heavily from the spirit and textures of Automatic for the People, but the record itself only give hints of the score. Since this is a soundtrack, and not a score album, there are other songs missing here that are heard in the movie, and as a '90s soundtrack, it also has snippets of dialogue scattered throughout its entirety. ...

$8.45 Personnel includes: Astrud Gilberto (vocals); Chet Baker (trumpet). Personnel: Chet Baker (vocals, trumpet). Audio Remixer: Carl Paruolo. Recording information: Downtown Sound; Sigma Sound. Arrangers: Al Gorgoni; Don Sebesky; Vincent Montana, Jr.; Benny Aronov. What's an Astrud Gilberto compilation without "The Girl from Ipanema"? And what's a chancy budget-line collection without an embarrassing re-recording of the only hit in attendance? Brilliant's ten-track Gilberto collection includes a batch of '70s tracks from the Brazilian chanteuse, leading off with Vince Montana, Jr.'s recasting of the title track. Also included are a bare few interesting tracks, including "Far Away" with a vocal and trumpet solo by Chet Baker. The same material was previously repeated on identically titled collections from Prime Cuts, Bellaphon, and Dressed to Kill. ~ John Bush This Synergy compilation of Astrud Gilberto's 1970s work for Creed Taylor's CTI label is identical to many others on various labels like Dressed To Kill, Brilliant and Hallmark -- whose cover is even duplicated here. And don't be fooled by the inclusion of the title track, it is a '70s funk-jazz remake of the bossa nova classic. No matter the price and the great sound quality, musically this is one to avoid. ~ Thom Jurek What's an Astrud Gilberto compilation without "The Girl From Ipanema"? | | Best Of A Flock Of Seagulls CD (1987) (Import) Germany
Enrique
$10.05 Liverpool's A Flock of Seagulls are best remembered for lead singer Mike Score's hair (and their number ten hit "I Ran [So Far Away]"). The quartet actually scored three lesser hits aside from that archetypal '80s smash. The kinetic "A Space Age Love Song"; the cascading, multi-layered "Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)"; and the sweeping "The More You Live, the More You Love" are also included here. The set is fleshed out with non-hits and album cuts that most listeners will find pleasant but unessential (although the neurotic "Nightmares" is quite fun). It's an interesting curio from synth-rock's heyday and all the Flock of Seagulls that anyone aside from ardent fans or '80s junkies needs. ~ Tom Demalon Music Club's The Best of A Flock of Seagulls is an excellent 16-track roundup of A Flock of Seagulls' best material. Their catalog wasn't particularly deep outside of the hits "Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)" and "I Ran (So Far Away)," but they did do some good new nomantic synth pop, particularly on cuts like "Nightmares," "A Space Age Love Song," and "Telecommunications," all of which are here. As a matter of fact, this really does contain all of the group's best material, and while new wave fetishists will likely go for the actual albums anyway, most listeners will be more than satisfied with this. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Though now considered little ...

$10.15 When I wrote these songs, I never thought they'd be recorded, no less by a band of such excellent musicians. Years later, my good friend Tony Scherr suggested I ask Kate ...
