Twenty marks the twentieth year since Lynyrd Skynyrd's debut album, but perhaps a more relevant yardstick is that it is the fifth record the group has released since reuniting in the late '80s. Prior to recording Twenty, the group added two new members -- ex-Blackfoot Rick Medlocke and former Outlaw Hughie Thomasson -- virtually making the band a Southern rock supergroup, and that's part of the problem. There are too many egos involved to make the album truly captivating -- especially since the songwriting is usually undistinguished -- but occasionally, the star power gels and results in some hot rock & roll. In other words, specialists and aficionados will find plenty of stuff to enjoy here, but most casual fans will think that it's all been said before. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine TWENTY, the title of Lynyrd Skynyrd's 1997 release, was a reminder that 20 years had passed since the tragic plane crash that killed Lynyrd Skynyrd bandmembers Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, and Cassie Gaines. It also marked the first time that ex-Blackfoot guitarist Ricky Medlock appeared on a full Skynyrd studio album as an official member (he was actually an early member of the band prior to their '73 debut). Highlights include the guitar jamfest "Bring It On," "How Soon We Forget," and "None of Us is Free." While not a classic like Skynyrd's '70s output (SECOND HELPING, STREET SURVIVORS, etc.), TWENTY showed that the band was still alive and well in the '90s. Lynyrd Skynyrd Twenty Songs Twenty Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) Johnny Van Zant I loved Skynyrd in the early years and although the band went through a tragic time and lost so many of their band members when the plane crashed lead singer Ronnie Van Zant got killed he was a very good singer and the music was wonderful, However Johnny Van Zant is so much better he has an awesome voice and brings something extra to the music it is awesome now, I own this c.d and would advise anyone who likes southern music to buy this one. True Skynyrd Fans Will Appreciate This CD also features the late Hughie Thommason: As seen in Wikipedia:Hughie Thomasson (1952 – September 9, 2007) was a guitarist and singer best known for his work with Southern rock band The Outlaws. He wrote most of the songs for The Outlaws including their three biggest hits, "Hurry Sundown", "There Goes Another Love Song," and "Green Grass and High Tides." After The Outlaws disbanded in the early 1990s Thomasson joined Lynyrd Skynyrd as a third guitarist from 1996 until 2005. He left Lynyrd Skynyrd to reform The Outlaws. Thomasson died from a heart attack late on the night of September 9, 2007 at his home in Brooksville, Florida.[ Submitted by genol (Cache Creek) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Twenty Years Later, Still Making Classic Music TWENTY showed Lynyrd Skynyrd still making classic music twenty years after that fateful day in Mississippi when the plane went down. This album features a strong social conscience on several songs, with new touches being added to the band's sound. You must own this one. Submitted by Adam (Suffern NY USA) Was This Review Helpful? $10.49 Blackfoot was a southern-rock band from Jacksonville, Florida, lead by singer/guitarist Rick Medlocke. Between 1975 & 1985 they released numerous albums, three of which are now making their worldwide CD debuts on Wounded Bird Records. 'Highway Song - Live' was originally issued in 1982 as a German import only and has been an extremely hard to find collectors item ever since.

Pink Floyd: Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Nick Mason, Rick Wright. Pink Floyd: Dave Gilmour, Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Nick Mason. Recorded at Sound Techniques, London, England on January 11-12, 1967. This is an Enhanced audio CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Pink Floyd: Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Nick Mason, Richard Wright. Recorded at Sound Techniques, London, England on January 11 & 12, 1967. This 1967 recording provides a fascinating glimpse into the inner workings of one of the most innovative ensembles in rock history. It features Syd Barrett-era Floyd performing its barnstorming signature tune, "Interstellar Overdrive," and what sounds like an embryo version of "Set the Controls For the Heart of the Sun," from A SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS, here called "Nick's Boogie." Both songs included here are epic-length improvisatory pieces that shift from spacy ambience to full-blown freakout and back again, using very basic tools. Synthesizers hadn't come on the scene yet, so Rick Wright relies strictly on his snake-charmer organ riffs to enhance the ...
