Brother to Brother marks the first time Johnny and Donnie Van Zant have ever collaborated together, and the results are exactly what fans of either Lynyrd Skynyrd or .38 Special would expect -- a set of tough, bluesy Southern rock. Instrumentally, it nearly achieves its full potential, capturing both of the guitarists in fine form. However, the material is a bit inconsistent, with several songs lacking memorable hooks or melodies. Still, the songs that do work are dynamite, and even the weaker tracks have their moments. And that means Brother to Brother is a worth a listen by any serious Skynyrd, Special or VanZant fan. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine The group known as Van Zant consists of latter-day Lynyrd Skynyrd singer Johnny Van Zant and his brother Donnie, who, with their emotive, gritty blend of rock, blues, and earnest Southern boogie, pay tribute to their late brother, Ronnie. Featuring a tight, seasoned backing band and soulful harmony singers, BROTHER TO BROTHER proudly carries on the tradition of Southern rock. Brother To Brother
$8.99 My Kind Of Country CD

Though brothers Johnny and Donnie Van Zant made their name in the southern rock outfits Lynyrd Skynyrd and .38 Special, there's little difference between 1970s southern rock boogie and much of what's on top of the country charts in 2007, so MY KIND OF COUNTRY fits right at home alongside the likes of Brooks and Dunn and Travis Tritt. With songs like "Goes Down Easy," "These Colors Don't Run" and the title track, the brothers clearly know their good ol' boy market backwards and ...
| | Anthony Braxton For Alto CD (1968)
Brother To Brother
$12.39 recorded in 1969, this historic album was the very first lengthy document of solo saxophone improvisation; originally available as a 2-LP set, all 73 minutes are now on one CD - although only his second recording, "For Alto" revealed that his solo vocabu
Solo performer: Anthony Braxton (alto saxophone). Recorded in 1969. Personnel: Anthony Braxton (alto saxophone). Recording information: 1969. Photographer: Terry Martin. FOR ALTO is Anthony Braxton's second album and a more radical work would be hard to find, especially for 1969. Each of these pieces is dedicated to another artist, and not all from the music world. Right away one is made aware of Braxton's intellectual confidence and his ability to move outside the confines of the jazz ghetto. While many of his colleagues, especially the Art Ensemble Of Chicago and AACM, were stressing--even overstressing--a black nationalism, Braxton immediately situated his music in the larger world of avant-garde art, even as he soon explored the bebop tradition on the great DONNA LEE from 1972. After issuing Anthony Braxton's Three Compositions of New Jazz in 1968, Chicago's Delmark Records took an enormous chance by issuing the first lengthy solo saxophone improvisation record in 1969 -- and as a double LP no less! And while it's true that hindsight is 20/20, For Alto is still, over 30 ...
