ABANDON, the follow-up to PURPENDICULAR, marks guitarist Steve Morse's second appearance on a Deep Purple disc. Steve sounds more comfortable in the band, and continues to add his veteran touch in a powerful way. "Any Fule Kno That" is a funky little number, while "Almost Human" does indeed show Mr. Morse settling in and finding his groove with a rip-roaring solo. "Don't Make Me Happy" shows the boys taking a bluesy turn, while "Seventh Heaven" returns to the group's heavy, vintage style. "Fingers to the Bone" is a melodic number with an acoustic rhythm part. Jon Lord's fantastic keyboard solos accentuate tunes like "Jack Ruby" and "She Was," and his organ goes one-on-one with Morse's playing on "Evil Louie." "'69" is a jam that reminisces about the band's partying days in Britain. "Bludsucker" closes the album and features the unmistakable shrieking of lead throat Ian Gillan. Revitalized with the addition of Steve Morse, ABANDON makes it less and less difficult to grasp that Ritchie Blackmore is no longer in the group. The band is tight and heavy, and the record is definitely worth a spin.

Deep Purple Abandon Songs Abandon Music Review Average Rating: (2.9 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews The title is telling you all you need to know Abandon this cd, because Deep Purple has. All the talent they once had is abandoned on this cd. Unfortunately it gets even more evident on their later releases, such as Rapture of the Deep. They are finished. Move on to something else. Like Jethro Tull. They continue to release quality music even these days. Unlike the afore mentioned Submitted by A.W.D. (Winnipeg, Mb. Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Are They Kidding?? Perpendicular was such a great album... What happened?? This is not worth listening to - the fear of all bands is to become boring. Purple has managed that very well. Save your $$$ Submitted by Spike (Fresno, California) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 2 of 3 found this helpful.
Awful record!!! How can these guys release a cd like this. The same group wich made "IN ROCK"and MACHINE HEAD"made this awful record?/exept Blackmoore off corse/Expecially the melodies of the songs are bad.Without singing, maybe would not be so bad,but this way? This is a very bad cd,if a new young group would offer something like this to a record company, they would be kicked out of the studio.Don't buy it!!!!!!Not worse a penny!!!!!! Just Open your Mind and Ears Deep Purple has been putting out some great music over the years and this CD "Abandon" is just another example of a band that keeps on getting better! No R.Blackmore on guitar but still rocks. I've read the reviews on this CD and did not let them stop me from buying it. I just don't know why most of them say this CD is bad? I say Just Open Your Mind and Ears and give more than one listen. Submitted by johnwerner71 (Fairview, NJ , USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Better live than... in studio Steve Morse gave Deep Purple new life but this is another record where it's difficult to feel that kind of life. The songs are with no heart and there's no one to remember. Anyway, Deep purple live-show is always the best in the world!

$10.45 After establishing itself as a hard-rock giant, thanks to endless touring and the release of such milestone records as MACHINE HEAD and IN ROCK, Deep Purple was in a state of turmoil when it went into the studio to record 1972's WHO DO WE THINK WE ARE? Despite all the infighting, the band pulled together long enough to record seven tracks that only bolstered the band's reputation.
The best-known song, "Woman From Tokyo," boasted a riff as memorable as the one that defined "Smoke ...
| | Deep Purple Bananas CD (2003)
Abandon songs
$7.79 Bananas has every sign of being a disappointment. Jon Lord's grandiose keyboards were always a focus but he's gone, it's released in the heady age of Radiohead, and it's got one of the oddest titles and the oddest cover art that ever graced a Deep Purple album. Surprise, it's fantastic. New keyboardist Don Airey is an effective replacement, adding new sounds and styles and working the Hammond so well that an uncredited Lord appearance was rumored among fans. Lord has said ...

Abandon album
$11.49 Deep Purple's 2005 album Rapture of the Deep generally maintains the quality of 2003's surprisingly sturdy Bananas. It's the second release from the re-energized lineup of vocalist Ian Gillan, guitarist Steve Morse, bass guitarist Roger Glover, drummer Ian Paice, and keyboardist Don Airey, who replaced the retired ...
