Swingland album for sale by Omar & The Howlers was released Feb 23, 1999 on the Black Top label. CMJ (4/19/99, p. 28) - "... strong album among those swing-tinged or otherwise. Here's hoping that the zoot-suit wearing Lindy hoppers will pick up on more traditional jump-blues contenders, as a result... " Living Blues (5-6/99, pp. 81-2) - "... [Omar Dykes] has... been reincarnated as a jump blues shouter - and the change does him some good... its consistent rhythmic drive and tight horn arrangements set the disc head and shoulders above [his] previous releases." One doesn't recall Omar & the Howlers as a straight-out jump blues combo, but it looks as if they're on the bandwagon with this CD.
