Synthesizer master Jarre built an entire career around the renown he achieved through this 1978 recording. Performed entirely on synthesizers, EQUINOXE consists of a single piece divided up into eight movements. Clearly influenced by the more melodic side of mid-period Tangerine Dream and Vangelis, Jarre filled this album with gauzy, atmospheric synth textures marked by an inviting, impressionistic feel.
The cinematic vistas evoked by Jarre's dreamy analog synthscapes are also undoubtedly influenced by his father, famed film composer Maurice Jarre. EQUINOXE takes a decided turn towards the mainstream when the bouncy, sequenced rhythms kick in, but the moodier sections are intoxicating, worthy of Klaus Schulze at his best.

Awsome, Relaxing, Soothing,Awsome I first heard this (tape) back in 1979. I was in the US Navy, onboard ship and underway. My friend saw how much I was stressing and had me listen to it. I instantly fell in love with it and couldn't get enough of it. The way the music flows and interacts with itself. The strength, the power, the energy is absolutely captivating. I love it. I have yet find any music put out by Mr. Jarre that isn't mind blowing AWSOME!!! Submitted by Rick (Orange City, FL,USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Classic No one has come up with better quality analogue synth sounds after all these decades of electronic and dance music styles. Can sound slightly cheesy at places when it gets all major and happy, but what a masterpiece nevertheless! Submitted by dinoship (London UK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The making of Jarre. This album, along with Oxygene, broke the mould and yet, set the platform for others using synthesisers later on.
Listen to the first track and try not to compare to Madonna's Substitute For Love. The start of the track reminds me as a child experimenting on a keyboard before playing a song.Track 2 I found disappointing but let track 3 take you wherever you want to go.Equinoxe IV was innovative at it's time; I like the way Jarre sits the notes slightly disjointed with the chords, there is a sort of 'swing' beat in there somewhere.Equinoxe V has got to be the best on the album. I remember hearing this on an old bbc computer game! There is something uplifting about it. Can't believe this was done in 1978! The album is rounded off nicely with a track that starts with what sounds like a busker playing an accordion in the rain. There is just something about it that tickles me, like Jarre walking away from the end of the album - topped off with a reprise of Equinoxe V
If you like Oxygene you will not regret buying this album.

Jarres best ever? This is probably Jarres greatest peice. It's an ambitious work in which time appears 'melt' in the slower sections, building pace towards melodies that pulse and dazzle!
This means I like it a lot.

Equinoxe album
$9.39 Released in 1976, OXYGENE proved to be a massive hit for French electronic musician Jean-Michel Jarre. The son of film composer Maurice Jarre, the synthesizer player sought to create warmer sonic textures through the technology of the time, and the result was this pioneering six-part album. OXYGENE's bizarrely creepy ...

| | Jean-Michel Jarre Zoolook CD (1984) (Import) France
Equinoxe music CDs
$9.89 On the first departure of his career since 1977's Oxygène, Jean Michel Jarre combined an actual band and processed vocal samples -- recorded in 25 different languages -- with his rich, melodic synthesizer pop. The rhythm is often propelled by guttural vocal snippets, as on "Ethnicolor" and "Zoolookologie." That's not half as disconcerting for those used to his previous work as the album's art-funk backing: ...

Equinoxe CD music
$6.19 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' ...

| | Julie Kelly Kelly Sings Christy: Thou Swell CD (2002)
Equinoxe songs
$13.99 No discussion of '40s and '50s cool jazz would be complete without some mention of June Christy. Like Chris Connor and Julie London, the Misty Miss Christy (b. 1925, d. 1990) was a vocal equivalent of tenor saxophonist Stan Getz, alto saxophonist Lee Konitz, or trumpeter Miles Davis -- her singing was characterized by subtlety, restraint, and economy instead of aggression or forcefulness. Although Christy was the essence of cool jazz, one doesn't have to be a full-time member of the Cool School to acknowledge her greatness. Julie Kelly is far from a carbon copy of Christy, and that's the thing that makes this Christy tribute as interesting as it is -- on Kelly Sings Christy: Thou Swell, Kelly salutes the cool-toned goddess on her own terms. Recorded in 2001 (11 years after Christy's death), this excellent CD is devoted to songs that people associate with Christy -- gems that include Billy Barnes' "Something Cool" and Lionel Hampton's "Midnight Sun." To her credit, Kelly doesn't go out of her way to emulate Christy's ...

Equinoxe album
$7.99 Feed Your Soul is the fruition of Glenda's vision to combine Jazz, R&B and World Music styles. | | Todd Edwards Fire And Be Damned CD (2006)
Equinoxe CD music
$6.69 Todd EdwardsFire and be DamnedHis music is his own, yet it is also the music of everyone. This is the fabric that binds us, songs of love, politics, and the open road. Songs of hope, and of loss, triumph and despair. These are our stories.Born in 1976, the son of a Pittsburgh steel worker and the Monongahela valley, Todd Edwards represents the echoes of a bygone past and the voice of today. It wasn't until he was nearly twenty-four years old that he ever even picked up a guitar. Now, twenty-nine, Edwards has shown his brilliance for learning new tricks and for releasing two impressive albums along the way. Todd wrote, performed, recorded and produced his first album, Mercury Rising. Released in June of 2003, Mercury Rising was simple, pure and spoke in a way that most people, regardless of age or time or place, could understand. It is not the obvious inward gazing introspective, but instead, an honest look outward to the world that exists today. Most people claim that Cincinnati best defines the album and is arguably Edwards' best song to date. And, anyone who has had the pleasure of catching a live version of the song at one of the many solo performances Todd has staged in the last two years in the Pittsburgh area might also agree. True to form, Todd released Mercury Rising in '03 without much fan fare and immediately got back to work on what has become a project of epic proportions. Join, or Die. , the 23 song double album and accompanying novel has not yet been released and is still, according to Edwards, "being tuned". But, so as not to let the growing number of individuals who have become interested in Todd's music continue to wait, Fire and be Damned was released this March. Fire and be Damned is a 5 song EP and preview of the larger Join, or Die. The songs previewed are light sonic sketches and the recording still classic Edwards. Both Mercury Rising and Fire and be Damned were recorded entirely on a Tascam 4 track. It is the simplicity in the music that appeals to Todd, who has come to believe that over production and revisionist ...
