Cannonball Adderley Cannonball Takes Charge CD (1959)
Live in Paris album for sale Adderley was on the verge of leaving Miles Davis's Sextet when he recorded the seven titles and two alternates that comprise this LP, the sixth in a seven-volume series of Riverside dates reissued by producer Orrin Keepnews. Highlights include "Serenata," "Poor Butterfly" and two versions of "I Remember You." ~ Scott Yanow

Rosanne Cash Right or Wrong/Seven Year Ache CD (2001)
Live in Paris CD music The issue of Rosanne Cash's first two Columbia albums in a single package is not only a listening delight, it's more importantly a historical document. In the same way archivists go back to finds the roots of certain evolutions in earlier strains of country music, these two records will be marked undoubtedly as the turning point from the countrypolitan and outlaw sounds of the late '70s to the fusion of country music with modern pop styles that could crossover and reach audiences on both sides of the country music divide. It also marked the resurgence of the female singer/songwriter that the music hadn't seen since the late '50s through the mid-'60s. Right or Wrong is Cash's first collaboration with ...

Art Farmer Quartet ARTistry CDs (2001)
Live in Paris album for sale ARTISTRY contains 2 original Art Farmer LPs on 2 CD's: A WORK OF ART (1982) and WARM VALLEY (1983).
Art Farmer's stay at Concord Jazz was relatively brief. The ex-trumpeter turned full-time flugelhornist only recorded two albums for Concord -- A Work of Art in 1981 and Warm Valley in 1982 -- both of which were produced by the late Concord founder Carl Jefferson. In 2001, Concord reissued the acoustic hard bop dates back to back as the two-CD set ARTistry. Farmer excels on both albums, which isn't surprising because his work was quite consistent in the '80s. A Work of Art and Warm Valley both find the improviser leading quartets; neither album uses a saxophonist and both feature a young Fred Hersch on piano. But while A Work of Art employs Bob Bodley on bass and Billy Hart on drums, Farmer is joined by bassist Ray Drummond and drummer Akira Tana on Warm Valley. As one might expect, the Bill Evans-influenced Hersch is a major ...

Dave Young Two by Two CDs (1995)
Live in Paris songs It is easy to understand why Dave Young is the one of the most in-demand bassists in Canada. With a fat tone and a gift for melodic solos similar to Ray Brown and Niels Pedersen, Young is joined for a pair of tunes by five different pianists. Oscar Peterson, with whom Young first recorded as a sideman in 1980, contributed a bluesy original ("OP & D") for the date, while he is also more than willing to take a backseat to Young. The bassist plays arco with Cedar Walton in a warm rendition of the venerable standard "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes"; this session marked their first recording together. Tommy Flanagan provides an elegant backdrop for Young during "In a Sentimental Mood." The sparks fly in his duet with John Hicks of Benny Golson's "Stablemates." The masterful duet with Mulgrew Miller of the classic bop tune "Hot House" uncovers new facets within this decades-old jewel. Anyone who enjoys these duo sessions will find an additional duo track by each of the pianists with Young (from the same studio dates) on the CD Side by Side, Vol. 3. ~ Ken Dryden
