| | Hasil Adkins What The Hell Was I Thinking? CD Hasil Adkins Discography of CDs
After spending most of the '70s releasing singles on obscure vanity labels, rockabilly legend Hasil Adkins spent most of the '90s regularly releasing full-length albums. On WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING (his fifth album overall and first for traditional blues imprint Fat Possum), Adkins isn't as hopped-up as he's been on prior releases. This is no mean feat for someone who sounds as if he's keeping three separate time signatures due to his self-taught, one-man-band style of playing.
This time out, Adkins croons considerably more, showing off the enormous influence Hank Williams had on this son of West Virginia coal miners. Songs such as "Your Memories" and "Beautiful Hills" really ring out with emotion and are enhanced by a touch of echo. Of course, Hasil Adkins still has a wild streak in him that gets channeled through the runaway tempo and blaring harmonica of "Stay With Me" and the out-of-tune stomper "Gone Gone Gone," which has Adkins singing like Jerry Lee Lewis on a bender. The oddest number on this album is "Up on Mars," a rambling narrative in which Adkins rambles on and cackles about a trip to the Red Planet while absently hitting dissonant chords.

What The Hell Was I Thinking? songs
$6.85 (MP3 Available for Download) Head Hunters has spawned a thousand copies and copyists, but is only strengthened through comparison. One of the most enduring works of the 70s' jazz/funk legacy, and surely one of Herbie Hancock's most enjoyable and infectious recordings, the album was released in the deeply groovy days of 1973, and soon became the best-selling record in jazz history. Loping along on a glorious bed of springy wah-wah and synth bass, the group used all the new technology ...

What The Hell Was I Thinking? CD music
$10.45 Cyrus Faryar's second album is similar to its predecessor, but more finely crafted musically and sonically, courtesy of producer John Simon. He gives Faryar's music a more opulent sound than the artist himself was able to achieve on his first album -- parts of this album could almost qualify as pop/rock, while other moments are closer to "progressive folk." As a composer, Faryar is less focused on this album, as he shares space here with the work of other songwriters, including Fred Neil ...

What The Hell Was I Thinking? songs
$10.39 (MP3 Available for Download) In the late 1970's, Otis Rush released this collection of his own favorite blues classics under the title TROUBLES, TROUBLES on the Sonet label. This long out of print release, now retitled LOST IN THE BLUES, has been completely remixed and beautifully repackaged.
For fans of this great blues guitarist (a major influence on Clapton, Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan), this recording is a special treat, because Rush rarely goes into the studio. The sound is lush and lively, and Rush's silky, stinging lead lines are remarkably sweet and lyrical.
