| | Robert Cage Can See What You're Doing CD Robert Cage Discography of CDs
Praise be to Fat Possum Records for enlivening the blues tradition almost single-handedly in the '90s. Flagship artists R.L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough, with their jagged, raw sound, are the templates for most Fat Possum releases. Like many of his labelmates, Robert Cage is a senior citizen hailing from Mississippi, who kept the blues flame burning throughout a lifetime of day jobs and poverty. Cage is as unadorned and authentic a singer/guitarist as Burnside or Kimbrough, equally at home with the barnburning electric guitar-and-drums approach of "Get Outta Here" or the fingerpicked folk-blues of "Goodnight Irene." Occasionally, Cage (who's affectionately referred to in the liner notes as a "grunter") recalls Joseph Spence with his guttural vocal style and forceful acoustic picking. Like Spence, Cage forsakes fatalism for a quiet but unshakeable faith in the Lord's salvation, and it's this faith that makes his debut album more than just a romp through some dusty old tunes.

Robert Cage Can See What You're Doing album
$9.69 Admittedly, the Detroit Cobras are simply a cover band. But with their release Life, Love and Leaving on the Long Beach label Sympathy for the Record Industry (the label responsible for the White Stripes' incredible international success), they've been given a bit of credence and an opportunity to showcase their amazing homegrown chops. These 14 songs, all Motown, soul, and good ole rock & roll standards, are the perfect material to bring this Detroit garage rock combo to life. Guitarists Dante Aliano and Maribel Restrepo set the frets afire with seething twangs and fuzz-box chord progressions. And singer Rachael Nagy attacks each song with aplomb, like Janis Joplin crossed with Mary Wells -- a hearty bar band crooner with showstopping resplendence. In fact, Nagy's most impressive track on the record is a cover of Wells' "Bye Bye Baby." Other ...

Robert Cage Can See What You're Doing CD music
$12.19 Contains an untitled hidden track following "Flatland Boogie".
Recorded live at The Continental Club, Austin, Texas on March 6 & 7, 2003.
As anyone who has heard him knows, Wayne Hancock is a honky tonk man, and what a honky tonk man does best is make with some tunes suitable for both dancing and beer drinking at an unpretentious nightspot along the highway. So the idea of a Wayne Hancock live album would seem like a no-brainer, and this set, recorded during a two-night stand at Austin's Continental Club in the spring of 2003, effortlessly captures his firecracker enthusiasm and the sharp picking ...

Robert Cage Can See What You're Doing music CDs
$17.35 This 25-song compilation doesn't contain exact recording dates, but it can be safely assumed that most or all of this was cut between 1947-1951; about half appeared on singles from that period, while some showed up on a 1963 Crown album (although they were obviously done much earlier), and others weren't released until Ace LP collections in the 1980s. (There's also a previously unissued "Happy Birthday," cut for Modern's Jules Bihari's birthday.) Regardless of the specifics, it's early jump blues from the stage at which it was in transition from jazz to R&B, leaning in some ...
