Gove Scrivenor's follow-up to 1988's Coconut Gove is a solid yet non-revelatory release. Scrivenor's rendition of Townes Van Zandt's "If I Needed You," with guest vocals by Lari White, is a rather faithful rendition and makes for one of the stronger tracks here. Nanci Griffith guests on the title track and John Prine makes an appearance on an excellent take on the Bob Dylan classic "Girl From the North Country." Apart from these moments, and some nice Scrivenor-led autoharp and mandolin instrumentals, there are some decidedly nondescript tracks. One wishes Scrivenor would break out the autoharp a little more often, as a good deal of the material, while being very solid, has a somewhat homogenous sound. Still, there is more than enough here to keep the Scrivenor fan satisfied. ~ Matt Fink Shine On Music | List Price | $17.98 (You save $2.93) | | Category | Rock/Pop Albums, Country CDs, Folk, Bluegrass | | Label | Compass | | Orig Year | 1998 | | All Time Sales Rank | 107052 | | CD Universe Part number | 1079412 | | Catalog number | 974254 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Aug 18, 1998 | | Studio/Live | Studio | | Mono/Stereo | Stereo | | Producer | Pat McInerney | | Engineer | Dave Ferguson; Bil VornDick | | Recording Time | 46 minutes | | Personnel | Jim Hoke - clarinet, alto saxophone Shawn Camp - violin Steven Sheehan - acoustic guitar, gut-string guitar Pat McInerney - drums, percussion Ron DeLaVega - bass James Hooker - piano, keyboards Gove Scrivenor - vocals, acoustic guitar, autoharp, harmonica Guthrie Trapp - acoustic guitar, mandolin Ray Flacke - electric guitar Dave Ferguson - ukulele, bass "Cousin" Al Angelo - steel guitar Bob Hatter LeAnn Etheridge Vinnie Farcetti - banjo, dulcimer

$12.79 Personnel: Iggy Pop (vocals, guitar); Kate Pierson, John Hiatt, Alex Brown (vocals); David Lindley (various instruments); Waddy Wachtel (acoustic & electric guitars); Slash (guitar); David McMurray (saxophone); Jamie Muhoberac (piano, keyboards, organ); Chuck Domanico (acoustic bass); Duff McKagan, Charley Drayton (bass); Kenny Aronoff (drums); The Leeching Delinquents, Ed Cherney, Sir Harry Bowens, Sweet Pea Atkinson, Donald Ray Mitchell (background vocals). BRICK BY BRICK began a long association with Virgin Records for Iggy Pop, and as one of Iggy's biggest commercial successes, it kicked off the relationship auspiciously, going Gold and spawning the pop hit "Candy." A marked contrast to the murky punk/metal monochrome of its predecessor, INSTINCT, BRICK BY BRICK, was richly produced by Don Was, who brought in a wide array of session players and guest stars to frame Iggy for maximum accessibility. While the duet with B-52's singer Kate Pierson on the melodic torch tune "Candy" is a highlight, and many of the tunes are softer than the Igster's usual fare, there ...

$14.89 THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION includes rare tracks from the Health & Happiness radio show, pseudonymous tracks as Luke The Drifter, and 5 rarities only available on THE COMPLETE HANK WILLIAMS box set. Personnel includes: Hank Williams, Jerry Rivers, Don Helms, Sammy Pruett, Bob McNett, Cedric Rainwater, Chet Atkins, Zeke Turner, Ernie Newton, Louis Innis, Eddie Hill, Jerry Byrd, Tommy Jackson, Owen Bradley, Jack Shook. Compilation producers: Kira Florita, Andy McKaie, Mike Ragogna. Recorded between April 21, 1947 & September 23, 1952. Includes liner notes by Kita Florita. All tracks have been digitally remastered. Liner Note Author: Kira Florita. Recording information: 04/21/1947-09/23/1952. While there are numerous Hank Williams compilations on the market, very few can compete with this outstanding 2002 two-disc set, sporting wonderfully remastered sound, which surveys the hard-living country legend's all-too-brief yet toweringly important recording career during the late 1940s and early '50s. In addition to including Williams hits such as the saucy "Hey, Good Lookin'" and the morbidly witty "I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive" (fittingly released around the time of his 1953 death), THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION presents revered lesser-known tunes such as the restless "Ramblin' Man" (issued under the alias "Luke the Drifter") and the beautifully melancholy "Lost Highway," all of which feature the performer's charmingly nasal drawl and spare, lilting arrangements. Although more comprehensive Williams anthologies are available, this is undoubtedly one of the best. Tall, charismatic, and ...
