All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.
Kaila Flexer is obviously a scholar of traditional music as well as a gifted composer, and on this album she displays both skills. Though Another Village has obvious Eastern European, klezmer, and French folk influences, the spirit on much of the playing is reminiscent of Argentine tango bands. Flexer gives her band plenty of room to shine on both traditional pieces and original compositions, the latter so well-grounded in roots music that it is hard to tell which is which. "Squirrel Sits In" sounds like a lost Stephane Grapelli and Django Reinhardt duet, and other tracks sound hauntingly familiar. Kaila Flexer's village is an interesting place where jazz and folk music blend in wonderful and unexpected ways, a place everyone can visit by playing this CD. ~ Richard Foss

| | Taylor Swift Fearless CD (2008) Enhanced CD
Next Village music CDs
$14.69 Taylor Swift abandons any pretense that she's a teen on her second album, FEARLESS--which isn't to say that she suddenly tarts herself up, running away from her youth in a manner that's all too familiar to many teen stars. Swift's maturation is deliberate and careful, styled after the crossover country-pop of Shania Twain and Faith Hill before they turned into divas. Despite the success of her self-titled 2006 debut, there's nothing at all diva-like about Swift on FEARLESS: she's soft-spoken and considerate, a big sister instead of a big star. Nowhere is this truer than on "Fifteen," a kind warning for a teen to watch her heart sung from the perspective of a woman who's perhaps twice that age--a sly trick for the 18-year-old Swift. There may be a hint of youthfulness to her singing but that's the only hint of girlishness here; her writing--and she had a hand in penning all 13 tracks here, with six of them bearing her solitary credit--is ...

| | Temperance Seven Tea For Eight CD (1989)
Next Village songs
$12.09 TEA FOR EIGHT compiles tracks The Temperance Seven recorded in the 1980s.
The Temperence Seven includes: Colonel Alexander Hitchcock Galloway (vocals).
In the early 1960s, the Temperance Seven was a popular trad jazz band in Great Britain. That particular band became inactive by the mid-'60s, but reappeared as the New Temperance Seven in 1970. After recording in 1974, the group was off records for 15 years until this CD launched the Upbeat label in 1989. For this outing, only two of the musicians were alumni of the 1970 group (and none were from the original band): trombonist Robert Mickleburgh and Wee Will McHastie on clarinet and alto. The remainder of the group consists ...
