| | Fertile Crescent CD Fertile Crescent Discography of CDs
The Fertile Crescent's self-titled album is an unlikely release for both Knitting Factory and the indie scene in general -- the band's jazzy and funky virtuoso leanings call up images of aging music geeks who grew up on overblown prog rock. Despite the polish and overly careful construction, however, the band explores some extremely elegant pop territory. Tracks like "My Green Heart" actually recall XTC in their less stylized moments, and to criticize the band for sounding too traditionally oriented (something which has more to do with image than quality) would probably just be indie pretension. No matter how unfashionable it might seem, The Fertile Crescent is an extremely well-crafted release, and it's quite likely to appeal to fans of late-period XTC, World Party, or to the adherents of any number of bands whose dedication to pop sophistication sometimes overshadows their hipness. ~ Nitsuh Abebe

Fertile Crescent album
$6.25 With BIRTH OF THE COOL, Miles Davis distilled a new tonal palette for jazz. As early as 1954, Miles reacted to the escalating chordal complexity of hard bop by fashioning an evocative blues based on a simple scalar pattern ("Swing Spring"). KIND OF BLUE was the ultimate fulfillment of this approach, with Miles providing his collaborators little more than outlines for melodies and simple scales for improvisation. By emphasizing the blues and the improvisor's melodic gifts, KIND OF BLUE precipitated a major stylistic development--modal jazz.
Charles Mingus had experimented with pedal points throughout the 1950s, and the melodic freedom of Ornette Coleman's Atlantic sides was also predicated on freedom from chord changes. But KIND OF BLUE was to prove the most influential, enduring work of its kind. There was just such a vibe about these 1959 sessions--Miles' lyric genius and burgeoning stardom, the innovative voicings and rarefied ...

Fertile Crescent CD music
$6.05 "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" was nominated for a 1996 Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance.
Over the past decade, since first gaining popularity with the Jeff Lorber Fusion, soprano saxophonist Kenny G has become one of the most celebrated instrumental stars in all of popular music. By fusing elements of contemporary jazz with the most lyrical aspects of pop and R&B, Kenny G has created an enduring sound signature and a fan base that rivals that of any vocalist.
It is precisely these lyric, vocal gifts that make Kenny G's sound so instantly identifiable. And on MIRACLES: THE HOLIDAY ALBUM, the saxophonist has turned his attention towards some of the most enduring, ...

Fertile Crescent album
$10.05 Michael Buble's third major US release (including the mostly live COME FLY WITH ME) stays on message--this young Canadian loves the lush, swaying music of his parents' and grandparents' generations. Buble's albums, however, are much more than mere back-in-the-day exercises. The production and arranging of David Foster (Celine Dion, Josh Groban) is eclectic in a way that firmly places the tunes at the dawn of the 21st century, and, more importantly, Buble possesses the chops and sense of style ...

Fertile Crescent music CDs
$18.99 Hamilton\'s premier roots and blues band TRICKBAG has just released their third CD titled TRICKNOLOGY. The much anticipated follow up to 2005\'s CACTI REDUX offers 14 original songs and a cover of DR. JOHN\'S/DOC POMUS\' \"FOOL NOBODY\". The songs are a reflection of TRICKBAG\'S various roots - Chicago Blues, New Orleans R&B, Tex-Mex, and Memphis String Band Tradition, all in a melting pot called TRICKNOLOGY. This is perhaps the truest representation of the band released on disc. Recorded at CHATHAM GARDENS STUDIO with MIKE BERTHELMER, the album features DENIS KELDIE on organ, piano and accordion. Rounding out the keyboard department is JESSE O\'BRIEN - a TRICKBAG mainstay since the first album in \'95.TRICKBAG is a Hamilton-based band that has been entertaining audiences on record and in concert for over a decade. Their sound is an exciting blend of blues, rock, rhythm and blues and soul music. It’s where the sultry sounds of Memphis, New Orleans and the Mississippi delta meet the gritty urban electric tones of Chicago and Detroit. And yet it’s also the sound of TRICKBAG’s “neck of the woods” as well. Hamilton has long been the center of a rockin’ blues tradition that goes back to the days of Rompin’ Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks. - It might be more convenient to name the musicians that the members of TRICKBAG haven’t worked with than those with whom they have, at one time or another, crossed musical paths. TRICKBAG together and individually has shared the stage and recording studio with the likes of the King Biscuit Boy and Kelly Jay (of Crowbar), Guitar Mikey, Michael Fonfara (Downchild Blues Band),Ken Whitely, Chuck Berry, Ronnie Hawkins, Leo Sullivan and Steve McDade (the Butcher Boys’ Horns), Denis Keldie (The Lincolns, The Boomers), David Essig, Rita Chiarelli, Sonny Del Rio and Jeff Healy. - The band’s first CD - TRICKBAG - on Peerless records received notice in publications as far flung as California’s Living Blues and ...
