Garfunkel (he was billed without his first name here) had a lot riding on his debut solo album, and Angel Clare, named after a character in Thomas Hardy's novel Tess of the d'Urbervilles, lived up to the heightened expectations for the man who had sung "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and other Simon & Garfunkel favorites. Garfunkel took no chances, issuing as the first single Jimmy Webb's "All I Know," which was arranged in a similar style to "Bridge" and made the Top Ten. Elsewhere on the record, Garfunkel took a more spirited approach, notably on a version of Van Morrison's "I Shall Sing" that was reminiscent of Simon & Garfunkel's "Cecilia" and made the Top 40. Certainly, there was enough firepower on the record, which featured guitarists Jerry Garcia and J.J. Cale. But much of it was filled with stately, orchestra-laden ballads, sung by Garfunkel in his naïve, breathy tenor. If Simon & Garfunkel had been the thinking man's Everly Brothers, Garfunkel alone turned out to be the thinking man's Johnny Mathis. ~ William Ruhlmann Art Garfunkel Angel Clare Songs | 1. | Travelling Boy | $0.99 | |

| Angel Clare Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) Art Garfunkel Goes Folk I own this music on vinyl and have searched high and low for the recording on CD. I really enjoy all tracks and it is super to hear the music again - I no longer have a record player so have been unable to play the vinyl recording. An oldie but goodie I have recently moved to Sri Lanka and no longer have a deck on which to play my old 33's...including Art Garfunkel's Angel Claire which is one of my old favourites...especially as it has so many English folksy songs...nostalgia for me.
Having this now on cd means that I get a much clearer...no more rasping of rpms...quality of sound. The music is timeless and has a mixture of moods in the music from up beat to teary ballads. Rock and roll it is not...but the timeless folk songs and the quality of Art's voice make it a real winner...it should be back in circulation ...not limited to web searching. still amazing after all these years I remember that I discovered this album on a whim Christmas Eve 1973 in a music store in Wexford Ireland.
I took it home and listened to it all night. I loved it, and - in that weird sense that doesn't seem to happen with albums any more - I have never stopped loving it. In fact I have always since thought of it as, in many ways as the perfect album of its genre.
It features a combination of three amazing talents - Roy Hallee as producer (we have forgotten what the word means), Jimmy Webb (mainly) as writer and Art Garfunkel's as vocalist.
I am surprised and delighted - from the available online reviews - to see that reaction to this album remains immediate and current.

One of his best In 1970, Art Garfunkel wowed the world when he sang "Bridge Over Troubled Water" on Simon & Garfunkel's final studio album.
Shortly thereafter, S & G announced their breakup. By the early '70's, fans wondered if Garfunkel would continue in the adult contemporary genre and they also wondered what the material would be like since Paul Simon was now keeping his tunes for his own solo albums. "Angel Clare", from 1973 was the answer. It was and still stands as one of his best albums.
"All I Know" is outstanding, "I Shall Sing" is funky and many of the others are gentle and airy. To my mind it was a total "album" rather than a string of songs thrown together. It was the album that launched his solo years and nearly 30 years later it is well worth rediscovering. Submitted by a reviewer (Ypsilanti, MI) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Angel Clare
$13.95 Personnel: Petula Clark (vocals); Andrew Jones (guitar); Martin Williams (saxophone); Malcolm Melling (trumpet); Kenny Clayton (piano); Irvine Jay (synthesizer); Philip Cranham (bass instrument); Kevin Chadwick (drums); Martyn David (percussion); Melanie Stace, David Hatzis (background vocals). In a career dating back to the early 1940s, Petula Clark has succeeded in various aspects of show business in various countries, and many are reflected in this concert recording from Paris, made when she was 70 (but sounding at least 20-years-younger). Beginning as a child star on radio in the U.K., she branched out into television and films in the 1950s as a juvenile, then moved to France and became a French pop star in the late '50s and early '60s. In 1964, she remade herself with the help of songwriter/producer Tony Hatch, and scored a series of British and American hits over the next few years, starting with "Downtown," the period for which she is best-known in the U.S. By the late '60s, she had moved back into film with Finian's Rainbow and Goodbye, Mr. Chips, and she later established herself ...

Angel Clare
$9.89 Digitally remastered edition of Mott The Hoople's swan song, originally released in 1974. The follow-up to their critically acclaimed "Mott" album featured a refocused band, following the departure of Mick Ralphs (who left to join Bad Company) and the arrival of Ariel Bender (aka Luther Grosvenor, from Spooky Tooth). It was Hunter's show though and all the stops were pulled for this manic thrust of energy. Kicking off with the goodtime rocker "The Golden Age Of Rock N Roll", we immediately plunge into the dramatic "Marionette" and soon into the manic "Crash Street Kids". This special expanded edition includes 7 bonus tracks, including studio recordings with Mick Ronson (who had replaced Bender on tour) plus a live version of "Golden Age..." prefaced by a snippet of Don McLean's "American Pie".
Mott The Hoople: Ian Hunter, Ariel Bender, Dale Griffin, Morgan Fisher, Overend Watts. Mott was so good that the sequel, appropriately named The Hoople, has been unfairly dismissed as not living up to the group's promise. No, it doesn't compare to its predecessor, but most records don't. The bigger problem is that Mick Ralphs chose to leave during the supporting tour for Mott, leaving Ian Hunter as the undisputed leader of the group and subtly changing the character of the band's sound. Even with Hunter as the band's main ...
