Personnel: Rick Derringer (vocals, guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, 12-string guitar, electric sitar, organ, drums, cowbells, maracas, tambourine, gong); Edgar Winter (vocals, saxophone, piano, electric piano, organ, keyboards, synthesizer); Lani Groves, Tasha Thomas, Carl Hall (vocals, background vocals); Joe Walsh (guitar, electric guitar); David Bromberg (guitar, dobro); Toots Thielemans (harmonica); Paul Harris (piano, keyboards, synthesizer, ARP synthesizer); Bobby Caldwell , Joe Vitale (drums); Joe Lala (congas, cowbells, percussion). Fresh from stints in the McCoys and Johnny Winter Band, All American Boy was supposed to be Rick Derringer's breakthrough solo album. For years, it was argued that the frightfully touched-up cover photo of Derringer sank the album before anyone heard it. If that's true, it's a shame, because this is simply Rick Derringer's most focused and cohesive album, a marvelous blend of rockers, ballads, and atmospheric instrumentals. Joe Walsh helps out on a couple of tracks, but mostly it's Derringer's show -- multi-instrumental virtuosity in a number of styles. Consider this one of the great albums of the '70s that fell between the cracks. ~ Cub KodaUncut (p.104) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[He] proves himself capable of taking center stage, writing, producing and playing guitar, sitar, bass, organ and drums..." | All American Boy Music Review Average Rating: (3.9 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews only got it for Rock & Roll hootchie Koo Rock & Roll Hootchy Koo is a great song but a dated 70's album. Some nice tunes. its a shame that the add for the album said the song "Free Ride" was on it (another great 70's tune) but they got the title incorrect it was actually called "Joy Ride".
SOME GREAT GUITAR PLAYING.

THE guitar hero Rick's playing on this album has never been equalled! His vocals are lean and brash and this is American Rock 'n roll the way it SHOULD be! Let's not forget Rick wrote 'Hang on Sloopy' for the Mcoys at the age of 15! The second album Spring Fever was just as good, but misses the cutting edge of "Rock 'n Roll Hoochie Coo" Submitted by leo.rex (London, England) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Fun Rock 'n Roll I'm giving this five stars, in part, to offset the idiotic one-star rating of another reviewer.
This has three of my favorite rock songs of all time. Rock 'n Roll Hootchie Koo, Teenage Love Affair, and Slide Over Slinky are as good as it gets. The other songs are good fun, too. It sound's fresh forty years later. Submitted by fabfourfreak (Granite Bay, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Under-rated To The Max!!!!! This album was so far ahead of itself I'm amazed that they haven't at least remastered it. At the going prices of cd's today, every re-issue should be remastered hands down, no if's, ands, or butts. Rick Rocks from the git-go. So what if there's two instrumentals, or a slow ballad or more. This highly under-rated artist extrodinaire should now be able to call his own shots when and where he likes. Don't under-estimate Mister "D". Great Set Of Rockers From One Of America's Best Guitarists! I've ben a Rick Derringer fan ever since his days with The McCoys ("Hang On Sloopy" fame). When "All American Boy" was released in 1973 the hit "Rock N' Roll Hoochie Koo" was all over radio. But there were some other excellent songs on the album such as "Teenage Love Affair", "Uncomplicated", "Slide On Over Slinky", "Cheap Tequila", and instrumentals such as "Time Warp", and "Joy Ride". Why Rick hasn't been inducted into The Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame is beyond me. He's a great guitarist & producer! Submitted by Barry ("Hallandale Beach, Fl.,USA") Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$16.19 Ray Russell has had quite the glittering career. Setting off at age 15 with the John Berry Seven, the guitarist went on to play with the Graham Bond Organisation and then Georgie Fame & the Blue Flames. Eventually, Russell would lend his talents on-stage and/or in the studio to a plethora of performers, from Tina Turner to Lulu, the Bee Gees to Phil Collins, and branching out in the '70s to compose for the small screen. Amidst this busy career, Russell also put together the odd band, like the Running Man, whose sole, eponymous album was released with little fanfare in 1972. The core trio of Russell on both guitar and bass, vocalist/organist Alan Greed, and vocalist/drummer Alan Rushton was supplemented by Harry Beckett on trumpet and flügelhorn and the late Gary Windo on tenor sax. The album sold poorly, guaranteeing its rare status today, and one listen to this reissue makes clear why, even at the proggy heights of 1972, this set made little attempt at accessibility or commercial appeal. And then there's its eclectic sound. "Higher and Higher" bristles with the sound of Space Oddity-era Bowie, before swooping into the synthscapes of the '80s. "Another," too, is far ahead of its time, a power ballad that slides into almost ELP-like pomposity, then dramatically alters course down ...

$9.59 As the sun sets behind the aging, crooked grin of the Detroit skyline, a poet contemplates the coming stars from a bench on the other shore. In the distance, he can hear a cover band sing "I'm crossing you in style someday..." and the poet knows it's true.Johnny Broadway's songs speak of love and beauty, struggling against an age with far too little of both. Taking to stages from Michigan to Manitoba in various forms over the past decade, Johnny Broadway has quickly emerged as an original and charismatic songwriter and performer.Johnny has been compared to such varied artists as Bob Dylan meets Leonard Cohen, Paul McCartney meets Andy Kaufman, a young Robert Smith (The Cure), and the infamous Danny Michel. The initial ...
