For the youth of 1980s Philadelphia, The Hooters were local gods among men, occupying an echelon of hometown greatness just one level below Ben Franklin and Phillies slugger Greg Luzinski. Though most City of Brotherly Love natives agree that the band's best album is AMORE (The Hooters' 1983 indie debut), NERVOUS NIGHT is the record that broke The Hooters nationally and made them, albeit briefly, darlings of MTV. The disc includes re-recorded and significantly souped-up versions of a few of AMORE's biggest hits ("All You Zombies," Hanging On A Heartbeat") as well as the radio staple "And We Danced." Sonically, NERVOUS NIGHT's production smoothes out the group's punkish, early Police-esque edge, but also beefs up the vocal harmonies and rhythm section, giving the record a more forceful overall feel.

| Nervous Night Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) MUST HAVE ALBUM Excellent; music comes to life Submitted by gingerswalm (Harrisburg, PA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Hooterific! Every song on this CD is great. Not like most CD's where there are only 2-3 good songs. Listen to it a few times and you'll be a fan forever! Submitted by Traci (Woodward, OK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A wonderful surprise I got this CD the moment it arrived in stores. As a Hooters fan, l was pleasantly surprised at what l found here - true to themselves, the Hooters re=created some of their sound, adding in more of their reggae roots (see thei first, Indie CD), and a whole slew of other instruments not seen in a rock band. Best of all, this album is *not* sterile! lt reflects a good bit of the joy this band gives and takes, in concert. All in all a wonderful surprise, and l highly recommend it. The big hit is 'And We Danced,'but don't judge this band until you hear 'She Comes In Colors' and 'Don't Take My Car Out Tonight'. You're in for a good ride, with this CD. Great New Sound for its Time This group really surprised me with the Regae sound becuase I really like Rock/Pop more, but they seem to pull it together enough to sound great and bend my ear to listen to it. Now, being from Philadelphia, I might be a little biased towards them, nevertheless, I still enjoy hearing them play !

Nervous Night songs
$14.54 (MP3 Available for Download) As a director or as a musician, Rob Zombie shows no signs of closing the door on either of his creative endeavors anytime soon. Returning with his first album since 2006's Educated Horses, after several delays following this record's completion in 2008 -- due to his work on Halloween 2, lack of promotion, and time spent shopping for a new label after 18 years of recording for Geffen -- Zombie has since gone on to say that the songs on Hellbilly Deluxe 2 were his easiest to write. This could be because it was his first outing to include help from his bandmates (longtime touring comrades guitarist John 5, bassist Piggy D, and drummer Tommy C) but it's probably more attributed to the fact that making songs like these is old hat by now. "Jesus Frankenstein," "Sick Bubblegum," and "Mars Needs Women" are the same schlocky grooves ...

Nervous Night music CDs
$9.09 (MP3 Available for Download) After working his way through loss and chaos on the brilliant TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT (recorded in 1973, but not released until 1975), Neil Young deftly exorcised any lingering demons with 1974's ON THE BEACH. The album opens with the saunter of the aptly titled "Walk On," followed by the utterly gorgeous, Wurlitzer-tinged "See the Sky about to Rain."
The set also features a trio of scathing songs--"Revolution Blues," "Vampire Blues," and "Ambulance Blues"--that address issues important to Young, both social and personal. It is good to hear Young ...

Nervous Night CD music
$14.95 (MP3 Available for Download) This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
Jerry Granelli reunites with guitarist Christian Kögel and picks up guitarist David Tronzo and bass player Anthony Cox for the V16 Project. However, the music this band makes is markedly different than Granelli's past two guitar, bass and drum lineups (News From the Street, Broken Circle). First off, Granelli has a hybrid electro-acoustic drum kit now, and Kögel and Tronzo are both armed with samplers (mostly for looping purposes, not sound effects) and the results are astounding. In the liner notes, Granelli claims that "this music is based on three vehicles: spontaneous composition, pre-composed pieces, and sonic adventure." There's something to be said for truth in advertising. The album starts ...

| | Skip Heller Fakebook CD (2004)
Nervous Night music CDs
$10.89 Reconvening about two months after their first gig together, Skip Heller and DOSE add reed player Robert Drasnin for Heller's debut on Joel Dorn's Hyena label. Fakebook is a throwback to the great organ/guitar albums of the '60s; covering pop tunes and standards in an easy, swinging fashion. In fact, things get off to a strong start with a Grant Green/Big John Patton tune called "The Yodel," which features some fantastic clarinet work from Drasnin. Les Baxter's "Sophisticated Savage" is a chance for Heller to show off his arranging skills, as well as a great vehicle for Joe Doria on organ. Drasnin moves to alto and highlights a smokey version of "Chinatown" and Ellington's "(Just) Squeeze Me." Actually, Drasnin is something of a revelation on this album, with crisp, coherent soloing, fabulous phrasing and a bright, clear tone on both alto and clarinet. Joe Doria is ultra-attentive on organ, with interesting solos, great comping and wicked basslines (check the pedal work on Eddie Harris' "Cold Duck Time"). John Wicks' playing is also excellent, supporting the songs while spurring on the soloists. And what of guitarist/band leader, Skip Heller? It's his show, but he doesn't set himself up as the star; this is a band. His soloing is concise and to the point, never losing sight of the melody. And like all great band leaders, Heller knows the strengths of his players, and chooses material that plays to those strengths. Overall, the song selection is excellent. Many of these tunes, especially "Never Can Say Goodbye" and "Sometimes It Snows in April," remind us that great songs are anchored in great melodies, ...
