Personnel: Eric Bazilian (vocals, guitar, mandolin, saxophone); Björn Ulvaeus (vocals, guitar); Rob Hyman (vocals, keyboards); Andy King, Patti Smith, Patty Smyth, Andrew King (vocals); John Lilley (guitar); David Uosikkinen (drums). Audio Mixers: David Thoener; William Wittman. Recording information: Record Plant Studios, New York, NY; Studio 4, Philadelphia, PA. Photographer: Mark Chin. For the youth of 1980s Philadelphia, The Hooters were local gods among men, occupying an echelon of hometown greatness just one level below Ben Franklin and Phillies slugger Greg Luzinski. Though most City of Brotherly Love natives agree that the band's best album is AMORE (The Hooters' 1983 indie debut), NERVOUS NIGHT is the record that broke The Hooters nationally and made them, albeit briefly, darlings of MTV. The disc includes re-recorded and significantly souped-up versions of a few of AMORE's biggest hits ("All You Zombies," Hanging On A Heartbeat") as well as the radio staple "And We Danced." Sonically, NERVOUS NIGHT's production smoothes out the group's punkish, early Police-esque edge, but also beefs up the vocal harmonies and rhythm section, giving the record a more forceful overall feel. Often overlooked, the Hooters' Nervous Night was a defining record not only for the band, but for 1985 itself. Filled to the brim with fun, danceable new wave-ish rock, the album is a wonderful representation of a lighthearted era. The peppy vocals of keyboardist Rob Hyman and guitarist Eric Bazilian give the band an assured, happy energy, while the sporadic use of the mandolin and melodica (a combination harmonica/keyboard) gives the group its distinctive sound. "And We Danced" and "Day by Day" became instant pop hits, but the remainder of Nervous Night is almost as strong. "All You Zombies," which refers to stories in the Bible, is the band's most powerful moment; along with "Where Do the Children Go," the track showed that the Hooters could be serious and dramatic as well as upbeat. Although the band wasn't able to maintain its momentum with subsequent records, Nervous Night remains a noteworthy contribution to mid-'80s rock and doesn't sound quite as dated as the work of some of the band's contemporaries. ~ Kenyon HopkinCMJ (1/5/04, p.16) - Ranked #20 in CMJ's "Top 20 Most-Played Albums of 1985" (8/94, p.125) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "...The Hooter's sound was warm and intensely melodic..." | Nervous Night Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) MUST HAVE ALBUM Excellent; music comes to life Submitted by gingerswalm (Harrisburg, PA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Hooterific! Every song on this CD is great. Not like most CD's where there are only 2-3 good songs. Listen to it a few times and you'll be a fan forever! Submitted by Traci (Woodward, OK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A wonderful surprise I got this CD the moment it arrived in stores. As a Hooters fan, l was pleasantly surprised at what l found here - true to themselves, the Hooters re=created some of their sound, adding in more of their reggae roots (see thei first, Indie CD), and a whole slew of other instruments not seen in a rock band. Best of all, this album is *not* sterile! lt reflects a good bit of the joy this band gives and takes, in concert. All in all a wonderful surprise, and l highly recommend it. The big hit is 'And We Danced,'but don't judge this band until you hear 'She Comes In Colors' and 'Don't Take My Car Out Tonight'. You're in for a good ride, with this CD. Great New Sound for its Time This group really surprised me with the Regae sound becuase I really like Rock/Pop more, but they seem to pull it together enough to sound great and bend my ear to listen to it. Now, being from Philadelphia, I might be a little biased towards them, nevertheless, I still enjoy hearing them play !

Personnel: Rivers . Audio Mixer: Rich Costey. Words such as "goofy" and "geeky" have long been used to describe Weezer's music, but these qualities are only one aspect of the band's sound; beneath all the humorous pop culture references and snarky attitude, Rivers Cuomo touched upon a myriad of serious topics including existential angst, aging, and sexual mores. While at first listen RADITUDE seems to be ...

| | Brandi Carlile Give Up The Ghost CD (2009)
Nervous Night songs
$11.35 (MP3 Available for Download) Audio Mixer: Jason Lader. If there was any flaw with Brandi Carlile's second album, THE STORY, it's that it was perhaps a touch too austere, painted in amber tones by producer T Bone Burnett. Its 2009 sequel, GIVE UP THE GHOST, opens up and breathes, perhaps partially due to swapping T Bone for Rick Rubin, who retains the spooky, serious vibe but makes things a little less chilly. This isn't sealed off; there is room for guests here, including such L.A. linchpins as Benmont ...

$10.59 "This album raises the bar for musicians everywhere."-- Las Vegas City Life"superfine -- a knockout blow"-- New Orleans Gambit Weekly "Heller takes jazz and makes it alive again."-- Philadelphia InquirerSkip Heller, Bob Drasnin and the Seattle-based battling rhythm section of organist Joe Doria and drummer John Wicks, rematched shortly after their celebrated Battle. Tunes by Grant Green, Bob Dylan, Duke Ellington, Les Baxter, Thelonious Monk, and other fine fine superfine Americans.Guest vocalist Stan Ridgway, too.Fakebook has generated serious raves in the press. Also -- the disc is embedded with a bonus whole other album in mp3 form, containing old favorites and previously unreleased gems. Plus a Quicktime movie of SH being interviewed.AND contains almost all of the tracks from BATTLE IN SEATTLE, which is now out of print forever.
Personnel: Skip Heller (guitar); Robert Drasnin (flute, clarinet, saxophone); Stan Ridgway (harmonica, background vocals); Jay Roulston (trumpet); Joe Doria (organ); John Wicks (drums, percussion). Recorded at My Tomb, The Mars Bar, Seattle, Washington in 2003. Reconvening about two months after their first gig together, Skip Heller and DOSE add reed player Robert Drasnin for Heller's debut on Joel Dorn's Hyena label. Fakebook is a throwback to the great organ/guitar albums of the '60s; covering pop tunes and standards in an easy, swinging fashion. In fact, things get off to a strong start with a Grant Green/Big John Patton tune called "The Yodel," which features some fantastic clarinet work from ...
| | Futureheads News And Tributes CD (2006)
Nervous Night songs
$11.49 (MP3 Available for Download) The Futureheads: Ross Millard, Barry Hyde (vocals, guitar); Jaff (vocals, bass guitar); Peter Brewis (vocals, drums). Personnel: Ben Hillier (tambourine). Audio Mixer: Ben Hillier. Recording information: Warrne House Farm, Ganton. Recorded in the English countryside with producer Ben Hillier (Doves, Elbow), the Futureheads' sophomore album, NEW AND TRIBUTES, finds the Sunderland-based quartet building on their crisp, punchy self-titled debut. On this outing, the group offers up its trademark euphoric four-part vocal harmonies, while tempering fierce guitar lines and hard-hitting rhythms with more expansive and melodic arrangements. The wonderfully catchy single "Skip to the End" reinforces the Futureheads' link to revered New Wave post-punk acts, particularly, in this case, XTC. Those who favor the Futureheads' more aggressive side will be pleased by the furious "Return of the Berserker," but, overall, the disc goes for a thoughtful, multi-layered approach, as evinced on the melodic track, "Back to the Sea." Easily one of the finest British rock releases of 2006, NEW AND TRIBUTES is the sound of a youthful band maturing while still retaining its initial verve. Though the Area EP suggested that the Futureheads' sound had matured since the days of their early singles and self-titled debut album, the extent to which the band has grown on News and Tributes still comes as a bit of a shock. Granted, many of the songs on The Futureheads had been around for a while, so it was almost inevitable that when the band returned with new material, it ...
