Recorded at Carengie Hall on June 8, 1963, this recording is one of Pete Seeger's most famous concerts. It contains the entire concert, about twice as much music as the LP. We Shall Overcome: The Complete Carnegie Hall Concert shows that Pete Seeger was at his apex as a performer and as an influential figure in the surging folk movement when John Hammond turned on the Columbia Records tape machine to capture this performance. Out flowed stories, traditional songs, covers of songs by new songwriters like Bob Dylan, and lots more. Seeger was perfectly in tune with his audience as well, and in the acoustic wonder of the hall, the harmonies were well captured. Columbia cut the tape down to a single disc in 1963, but this reissue, running over two hours on compact discs, presents the full concert for the first time. Anyone wondering what it is that has put Seeger at the forefront of folk music for the better part of his life need only hear this to understand.~ William Ruhlmann Capturing a complete mid-'60s solo concert at New York's Carnegie Hall on two hour-long discs, Pete Seeger's WE SHALL OVERCOME is a glorious-sounding document of the folksinger/musicologist/social activist at the peak of his powers. Opening with a fleet-fingered banjo medley and ending more than two hours later with a stirring version of his classic "Guantanamera," Seeger touches on every aspect of his music, from protest songs to blues to traditional ballads to leftist anthems. The entire concert is remarkable, but a particular highlight comes in the middle of the first disc, when Seeger covers two songs by Bob Dylan, the apocalyptic "A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall" and the anti-boxing tirade "Who Killed Davey Moore?," a gesture of solidarity from one generation of folkies to another. The remastered sound is pristine and the set includes new liner notes. We Shall Overcome - Complete Carnegie Hall Music Pete Seeger We Shall Overcome - Complete Carnegie Hall Songs We Shall Overcome - Complete Carnegie Hall Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) History Revisited When this recording was first released it contained 13 tracks, of a memorable and totally sincere performance by this great troubador.
Imagine my delight, many years later to have this crystal clear, re-mastered concert, in its entirity - all 26 tracks are included.
I grew up with this music, first hearing it at age 13 in New Zealand.
I am now 56 and the return of this wonderful concert in its entirity is a fabulous gift.
I recommend this CD to any fan of Pete Seeger, or to any person whom cares about the history of American Civil Rights.
It is a gem.

Pete Seeger at his inspirational best This was a superb live album even in its 1963 guise as a single LP. The two-CD version captures the entire June 8 concert in Carnegie Hall, making it a priceless musical, political and historical document of the civil rights era. Unfortunately, the brainwave that brought this about didn't last very long, because many of Seeger's Columbia LPs remain unissued on CD.
