The Search for Robert Johnson takes contemporary blues singer and musician John Hammond on a sultry, passionate and haunting odyssey to seek out the truth behind the legend of the famed blues singer Robert Johnson. We visit ramshackle towns and railroad crossings in the Mississippi Delta, talk to surviving relatives, girlfriends and street musicians who remember Johnson, we are shown medical records, death certificates even Johnsons (reputed) grave. This documentary is shot in an understated fashion; no glitsy effects here! - it drifts along at just the right pace and is accompanied by an excellent soundtrack which cuts original music with some truly sublime performances from John Hammond who really does appear to have the blues in his soul. A must for any lover of country blues music but also of interest to anyone with an interest in American or music history.

 Excellent film.
This is a very informative movie about Robert Johnson and the blues. If you have any curiousity about R. Johnson and what drove him to write about what he did then get this movie. There are a lot of interviews with friends and ex-girlfriends. John Hammond also does his own versions of some of Johnson's songs. One of my favorite parts is when one of Johnson's old girlfriends hears an old R. Johnson tune for the first time...and the song was written about her. All blues lovers HAVE TO SEE THIS FILM.

 The best movie
I LOVE THIS MOVIE I HAVE NOTHING BAD TO SAY ABOUT IT! IF YOUR THINKING ABOUT RENTING IT, I THINK YOU HAVE TO PLAY TO ACTUALLY APPRECIATE IT, BUT IT IS SO AWESOME.
