If you want quanity, buy the LP, not the CD. With almost 80 minutes of recording time, the CD only uses up 66 minutes. The original LP is almost 79 minutes long. By pfunker (Portsmouth, VA)
Travesty What Columbia records did to this cd is a total travesty. To give it the "nice price" package they have eliminated songs and cut the album centerpiece "School Days". By Matt A. (Bridgeport,CT)
fine i ordered the wrong cd but still enjoyed it By al (boise,id) This review is for a different format.

Mike Bloomfield / Bloomfield-Kooper-Stills / Al Kooper / Stephen Stills Super Session CD (1968) Top Seller
I Wanna Play for You CD music A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").
All the tunes make effective templates for the kind off-the-cuff music-making that in less capable hands might have resulted in simple noodling. In fact, although Bloomfield and Stills don't play together on any of the cuts (Bloomfield played on one side of the original LP, Stills on the other), all three principals get off lots of good licks and producer Kooper has some interesting tricks up his sleeve, as in the over-the-top phasing he lavishes on "You Don't Love Me." The only real disappointment here is that Stills, a far better singer than Kooper, never opens his mouth.
Those familiar with the Live Adventures album these two recorded at the Fillmore West know how brilliant they could be on stage, and here's another gem, recorded at the Fillmore East this time and featuring 'One Way Out,' 'It's My Own Fault' (with Bloomfield trading licks with Johnny Winter...Johnny was signed to Columbia after this gig!). Newly remastered & now with 4 bonus tracks, 'Albert's Shuffle' (2002 Remix w/o Horns), 'Season of the Witch.' (2002 Remix w/o Horns), 'Blues For Nothing' (Studio Outtake) & 'Fat Grey Cloud' Previously Unreleased Live Track). Features 12-page booklet with unpublished photos from the recording session, new liner notes by Al Kooper & the Rolling Stone Hall Of Fame review by David Fricke. 60 scintillating minutes! 13 tracks. Colunbia/Legacy. 2003.

Jean-Luc Ponty Cosmic Messenger CD (1978)
I Wanna Play for You buy CD music COSMIC MESSENGER is certainly more "cosmic" than Ponty's previous releases, thanks to the violinist's more pronounced use of synthesizer and the enlisting of Allan Zavod as his main keyboardist. The album finds Ponty exacting the energized fundamentals of rock while simultaneously fleshing out his already expanding sound palette.
With exuberant, atmospheric violin etchings and exciting runs of drums and bass underpinning Zavod's guitar thrusts, "Don't Let the World Pass You By" summarizes the Ponty songbook. Released at the end of the '70s and executed with a sophisticated degree of polish and poise, COSMIC MESSENGER moves along with the inertia of a locomotive. The album remains a sparkling gem in Ponty's crown.
Live Recording
Recorded at Cherokee Studios, Hollywood and Chateau Recorders, North Hollywood, California.

Jean-Luc Ponty Enigmatic Ocean CD (1977)
I Wanna Play for You songs Arguably Jean-Luc Ponty's finest record, ENIGMATIC OCEAN benefits from the two-pronged attack of Ponty's engrossing violin playing and guitarist Allan Holdsworth's equally majestic command of his own six-string and its accompanying devices. Compositionally, the tracks move from fast and furious fusion to moments of blissful restraint.
The lovely "Nostalgic Lady" features Holdsworth in peak form, coloring in the foreground with pastel shades of guitar synth, while former Journey drummer Steve Smith caresses Ponty's sultry violins with graceful strokes to cymbal and snare. The multi-part title track soars on spacey beds of synthesizer, guitar, and drums. As Ponty's rhythmic foil, Smith has never been better, and reveals himself as one of the finest drummers to have emerged from '70s fusion. Enigmatic arrangements and enigmatic playing make Ponty's OCEAN the perfect balm for mind and soul.

Chick Corea / Return To Forever Where Have I Known You Before CD (1974) Top Seller
I Wanna Play for You album for sale Chick Corea/Return To Forever: Chick Corea (keyboards, percussion); Stanley Clarke (organ, bass, percussion); Al DiMeola (guitar); Lenny White (drums, percussion).
This classic, cookin' fusion record from the heyday of the genre still sounds exciting today. Keyboardist Chick Corea leads his band on an intergalactic cruise into the void where rock and jazz meet in an explosive big bang. Playing with sci-fi imagery, Corea, bassist Stanley Clarke, drummer Lenny White, and guitarist Al DiMeola know how to trip the light fantastic.
White's searching "The Shadow of Lo" lets DiMeola riff with velvety guitars around Corea's sunny keys. On the closing space/jazz tug of war "Song to the Pharaoh Kings," Corea's synths pop like subatomic nuclei, while White lays down a frenzied star storm of clashing cymbals and ringing snares, and DiMeola and Clarke's strings wrap themselves around each other with impressive skill.

If This Bass Could Only Talk CD (1988)
I Wanna Play for You CD music This was bassist Stanley Clarke's twelfth solo set, and one of his very few that would be recommended to jazz (as opposed to funk and R&B) listeners. On the instrumental set, Clarke's bass is featured in a wide variety of settings, including duets with tap dancer Gregory Hines and drummer John Robinson, a quartet with Wayne Shorter ("Goodbye Pork Pie Hat"), in a power trio with guitarist Allan Holdsworth and drummer Stewart Copeland, a piece with George Duke (on acoustic piano for a change) and soprano saxophonist George Howard, a quartet with the synthesizers of Steve Hunt, and "Funny How Time Flies," which has a colorful Freddie Hubbard trumpet solo. Throughout, Clarke's bass has plenty of solo space, and he shows how strong a player he can be when given decent material. ~ Scott Yanow
