(4 Customer Reviews)
Recorded live at Bill Graham's Fillmore Auditorium, San Francisco, California on September 26-28, 1968. Includes liner notes by Mike Bloomfield, Al Kooper and Tom Wheeler.
This warts-and-all document of three shows recorded live at the old Fillmore West in September 1968 is a genuinely entertaining period piece. Designed to cash in on the success of the Bloomfield/Kooper/Stills live-in-the-studio SUPER SESSION which had been a surprise hit earlier that year, this nonetheless features only one tune from that album, the lengthy psychedelic jam "His Holy Modal Majesty."
The rest of the album is mostly traditional blues, with the notable exceptions of an inventive slow soul version of Paul Simon's "59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)," an all-instrumental take on the Band's "The Weight," and a loose run through of Traffic's "Mr. Fantasy," which gives Kooper the opportunity to quote from the Beatles then-current hit "Hey Jude." The ensemble playing is occasionally a little sloppy, and some of the soloing is by modern standards a tad indulgent, but by and large this is highly creative music-making regardless of its era.
Engineers include: Phil Macy, Fred Catero, Don Puluse.
Personnel: Al Kooper (vocals, keyboards); Mike Bloomfield, Carlos Santana (electric guitar); Roosevelt Gook (piano); John Kahn (bass); Skip Prokop (drums); Paul Simon (background vocals); Elvin Bishop.
Reissue producer: Bob Irwin.

He had no pretenses, fancy clothes or ego about it. When you hear him play even the mistakes just add to the integrity of pure feeling pushing through his technical skills. Bloomfield's influence can be heard in the playing of Carlos Santana (also on this recording). Just check out the incredible samba that crescendos on the Electric Flag's "Another Country" and you will hear where Santana got his ideas.
The Live Adventures...displays the essence of Mike Bloomfield. His guitar has a syrupy vibrato and moans. From pure Blues to modal scales. The notes truly sing. Speaking of singing, not a great voice but a real voice. He sang just because he felt it and he wanted to. His guitar playing on this album is what the Blues are all about. If you want to hear Mike Bloomfield this is an album you must have. Anyone studying blues guitar should purchase this album as well. My vinyl recording is well worn out.

mike lives! a must for mike bloomfield fans like me - although his appearance is a little shorter than hoped it is a privilege to hear him speak and play live - that sharp sad guitar and gentle pleading voice just get better each time i hear it. other contributions are also outstanding - a piece of musical history. A TIME CAPSULE FROM 1968 This albums captures Mike Bloomfield at his inspired best. Something about the times that he and Al Kooper played together they created some the most inspired blues based psychodelic music. This particular album is a follow up to the super sessions album. The idea was lets create a spontaneous live album followup to the super sessions. The outcome was an inspired jam based set with special guest Carlos Santana and
Elvin Bishop. If you are a fan of Bloomfield and Kooper or just love a good jam session from the fillmore in 1968 this album is for you!

The really best for ears and soul I was 8 years old the first time I lisened it.Now I am 43 and never quit. I still get astonish. Its sound is atmospheric, novel, powerful, purity. And at least, this makes it a real classical album. Afterwards represents the esence of the great generation that build our clousely related musical culture in the most finess circuit no only in music, even in whole the fine arts.
