Burl Ives' Christmas Album may not be his definitive Christmas album, but it's quite strong nevertheless, thanks to warm, friendly performances of "Happy Birthday, Jesus," "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear," "Jingle Bells," "O Holy Night," "O Little Town of Bethlehem," and "Silent Night," as well as the charming kids' tune "Santa Mouse." ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Christmas Album CD music
$11.49 SO FAR SO GOOD (AND MORE) includes 9 previously unreleased videos.
By 1993, when Bryan Adams released his first collection of greatest hits, he had enjoyed 12 years in the music business during a span that had seen hot trends like new wave and late '80s hair metal fall by the wayside. Adams managed to stay popular by sticking with an ear-pleasing brand of rock & roll that veered between edgy, bar-band style riff rock to more earnest, American-style roots rock in the tradition of Bruce Springsteen and Bob Seger.
SO FAR SO GOOD gathers all the essential Adams tracks from his hugely popular '80s albums. This set of melodic rockers, inlcuding "Run to You," "This Time" "Kids Wanna Rock," and "Summer of '69" will be familiar to anyone who was near an FM radio during the era. Adams is a likeable rebel, a tough and tender troubadour singing songs that may not have been taken seriously by rock critics, but which nevertheless had ...

| | Burl Ives Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer CD (1995)
Christmas Album songs
$4.99 The Rankin/Bass animagic film Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer first appeared on December 6, 1964. Since then, it has become the longest-running of all holiday TV specials (with, we hope, no end in sight). It's fitting that the grandfather of all Christmas specials features Burl Ives, still remembered warmly by millions as the voice behind the film's narrator, Sam the Snowman. Although this soundtrack bears his name, Ives appears only on a handful of songs: "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," "A Holly Jolly Christmas," and "Silver and Gold." The remaining vocals are handled by various cast members: "Jingle Jingle Jingle" features Stan Francis as Santa, "We're a Couple of Misfits" is sung by Billie Mae Richards (the voice of Rudolph) and Paul Soles (the voice of Hermie), "There's Always Tomorrow" is immortalized by Janet Orenstein (as Clarice), and a chorus shares "The Most Wonderful Day of the Year." The real musical genius behind the movie is Johnny Marks, a songwriter who had earlier written the song "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" as well as holiday favorites like "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" (which is featured in a medley here). His songs, in the hands of musical director Maury Laws, simply sparkle with Christmas magic. The second half of the soundtrack features instrumental versions of the songs, featuring the ...

| | Eric Gales Crystal Vision CD (2006)
Christmas Album songs
$13.89 When Eric Gales first arrived on the scene, he was being heralded by some as the second coming of Jimi Hendrix. Well, it didn't exactly work out that way, but Gales continues to issue albums, and his playing is still full of funky Hendrix-isms, as evidenced by his 2006 release, Crystal Vision. Longtime Shrapnel Records head Mike Varney lends a hand throughout -- co-producing the album with Gales, and co-writing nearly all the songs with him -- which results in the exact type of stylistic album you'd expect from the guitarist. ...
