(1 Customer Review)
Recorded between 1964 and 1975. Includes liner notes by David Fricke and Bob Irwin.
Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel were initially inspired by the Everly Brothers and under the name Tom And Jerry enjoyed a hit with 'Hey Schoolgirl'. The duo reunited in 1964 for Wednesday Morning 3AM, which included an acoustic reading of 'The Sound Of Silence'. Producer Tom Wilson made the presumptuous but prescient decision to overdub 'Sound Of Silence' with electric instrumentation and an album titled after the million-selling single was rush-released early in 1966. Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme had a varied mood from the grandly serious 'For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her' to the bouncy '59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)'. The duo contributed Mrs. Robinson to the soundtrack of the 1968 film, The Graduate. That same year saw the release of Bookends, a superbly-crafted work. In 1969 the duo released the celebrated Bridge Over Troubled Water. One of the best-selling albums of all time, the work's title track became a standard with its lush, orchestral arrangement and contrasting tempo. While at the peak of their commercial success, the duo became irascible and their partnership abruptly ceased. Since then there have been sporadic reunions, most notably The Concert In Central Park.

Rolling Stone (11/27/97, p.109) - "...manages to have it both ways, providing a reminder of their impact and a fresh perspective on it, simultaneously. The concert performances are folksy and spare, highlighting Garfunkel's aching vocal harmonies and Simon's ambitious songwriting reach..." Entertainment Weekly (12/12/97, pp.84-86) - "...OLD FRIENDS is the model of an efficient, enlightening box, its three discs alternating hits and album tracks (which have never sounded better, thanks to newly unearthed master tapes) with unreleased live cuts and a smattering of rarities..." - Rating: A Simon & Garfunkel Old Friends Songs Purchase Old Friends CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Paul Simon Songs From The Capeman CD (1997)

Ever since their version of Bacharach-David song,"Close To You" hit the charts in 1970, the Carpenters have long seemed the epitome of anti-rock. Actually, Richard Carpenter revered the Beatles and Beach Boys just as much as Burt Bacharach. So there was more of a continuum with the '60s pop/rock tradition than appearances might suggest. Karen Carpenter is simply a singer of the first rank, comparable to pop divas like Patsy Cline and the Brazilian Elis Regina. On this classic (now remastered) singles collection, spanning hits from the early "Ticket To Ride" up until ...
| | Jeff Buckley Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk CDs (1998) Bonus Tracks; Japan
Old Friends songs
$45.29 SKETCHES FOR MY SWEETHEART THE DRUNK is a posthumous release of the material Jeff Buckley was working on before his death in 1997. Disc One includes the studio sessions for what would have been his second album, produced by Tom Verlaine. Disc Two includes Buckley's 4-track home recordings of works-in-progress, plus a live recording from the studio of WFMU.
The CD-Extra version of SKETCHES FOR MY SWEETHEART THE DRUNK contains all the tracks on the original album along with a collage of photos, artwork, and lyrical excerpts and clippings from Jeff's notebooks.
"Everybody Here Wants You" was nominated for the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance.
The sadly short life of Jeff Buckley left many songs unfinished, and SKETCHES FOR MY SWEETHEART was compiled of material he was working on before his untimely demise.
We'll never know for sure what artistic heights Jeff Buckley might have gone on to reach, since he was taken from us so obscenely early, with only time enough to complete one album and begin work on a second. With the help of SKETCHES, though, we can make some educated guesses. This ...

Old Friends CD music
$10.09 Chris Bailey and I first met in 2005 when we performed together at the Taichung Jazz Festival – the ensemble was called Rhythm Clowns and with the exception of the local drummer, we were all foreigners living in Taiwan. It was a rather last minute affair, and I believe we had a single afternoon rehearsal before the show in the evening. It was such a whirlwind experience that Chris and I never really got to know each other. If we had, this album might have happened a lot sooner.I guess we let time slip. Almost three years later in May of 2008, Chris and I were invited to play together at the opening of Mojo Retro, a coffee-shop and live music venue near the Taichung Art Museum. After our mutual surprise to learn that the other was still around and had been here all this time, we fell into easy conversation and happily we were able to continue that free exchange in our playing. We took a conscious decision not to censor ourselves on this album, but rather to play off each other, to borrow from each other’s vocabulary, to let the notes fall where they may, and hopefully to share the pleasure we derive from this simple act of communicating.Since we owe a debt of gratitude to the city that brought us together and that we now call home, Suncake Lounge derives its name from the pastry associated with Taichung. As the “vol.1” in the title implies, Chris and I intend to continue the conversation in future ...
