BEST OF THE DOOBIE BROTHERS LIVE is an Enhanced CD containing both a full audio program as well as multimedia computer files, including free unlimited Internet access.
The Best of the Doobie Brothers Live distills the 1996 double-disc set Rockin' Down the Highway into a budget-priced single disc. Rockin' Down the Highway was culled from three 1996 concerts, all of which featured all three of the band's lead vocalists: Tom Johnston, Patrick Simmons, and Michael McDonald. Where that set contained a bunch of fan favorites, this pretty much concentrates on the hits ("Jesus Is Just Alright" through "What a Fool Believes" through "The Doctor"), adding "Without You," which didn't appear on the previous set. It's a fairly entertaining nostalgia trip. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

It's a fairly entertaining nostalgia trip but it's not essential. In fact, it's hard to know who it's for: hardcore fans will want the complete set, while casual fans will rather pick up a hits collection. Either way, this isn't a bad listen, it's just not very memorable. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

After the untimely death of former enigmatic vocalist Bon Scott, AC/DC finally chanced upon a worthy replacement in the shape of former Geordie frontman, Brian Johnson. The result was more than the formal pastiche some expected, with Johnson stamping his own personality, not to mention distinctive rasp, on the record. The band's staple lyrical diet of sex and the general pursuit of happiness, however, remained very much intact. Highlights include the stomping 'Hell's Bells', the ...

When Matchbox Twenty's first album became a hit, some critics lumped the band in with flash-in-the-pan rock acts of the day. What these early naysayers missed, of course, is that in vocalist Rob Thomas, Matchbox Twenty had one of the finest mainstream pop/rock songwriters in the business. Not only did Thomas rack up a string of hits with the Florida group, but he also co-penned "Smooth" from Santana's Grammy-winning 1999 comeback album, SUPERNATURAL.
With SOMETHING TO BE, his solo debut, Thomas pulls out all the stylistic stops, revealing that Matchbox Twenty's alternative-rock format provided a somewhat limited forum for his considerable talents. "Lonely No More" mixes an insistent dance beat with an insanely catchy chorus that sounds straight out of the boy-band textbook. The title track ...
