(3 Customer Reviews)
This is a multi-channel Super Audio CD playable only on Super Audio CD players.
Principally recorded at Wally Heiders, Los Angeles, California. Live bonus tracks recorded at Hollywood Sunset Sound, Hollywood, California on February 11, 1978. Includes liner notes by William C. Rhoden.
GRATITUDE, recorded during Earth, Wind & Fire's 1974-1975 American tour, is an impeccably recorded live album. Given the band's knack for improv jamming and altered songs, you can be sure you won't be hearing studio tracks with a crowd dubbed in.
From the supersonic rumblings of "Africano/Power" to the soul sing-along "Devotion" to the percussive party jam "Sun Goddess," all the signs of a classic live album are here. An almost nine-minute version of "Reasons" shows the soloing talents of the musicians. "New World Symphony" is an epic jazz number. Studio tracks recorded after the tour are also included, such as the perfect pop ditties "Sing a Song" and "Can't Hide Love." This re-release also contains a live bonus medley from a 1978 Natalie Cole TV special. With a running time of over 70 minutes, R&B lovers should give GRATITUDE for this release.

| | Average White Band Soul Searching CD (1976)
Gratitude songs
$5.95 AWB's artistic winning streak continued with its outstanding fourth album, Soul Searching. Interestingly, this wasn't an album that enjoyed a great deal of publicity or that contained a lot of major hits. In fact, its biggest single, the dreamy "Queen of My Soul," only made it to number 21 on Billboard's R&B albums chart. But thanks to the devoted following AWB had acquired since signing with Atlantic in 1974, Soul Searching went gold. Indeed, AWB aficionados were quite receptive to first-rate material ranging from the invigorating "I'm the One" to the hauntingly romantic "A Love of Your Own." By zeroing in on their strengths -- hard-hitting funk and delightfully melodic soul -- AWB saw to it that Soul Searching was every bit as rewarding as its predecessors. ~ Alex Henderson

Gratitude album
$12.09 Clarinetist George Lewis and trumpeter Elmer Talbert first worked together as members of drummer Arnold DePass' Olympia Brass Band back in 1929 on the streets of New Orleans, LA. Talbert gigged and recorded regularly with Lewis during the years 1949-1950, blowing his horn and singing the words to old-time melodies with an earthy passion that sometimes rose to crescendos of thunderous gruffness. In 2007, American Music sewed together rare recordings of the George Lewis band with Elmer Talbert recorded at six different locations, including the Parisian Room at 116 Royal Street, a recording studio on Rampart Street, and WDSU radio's broadcasting facility, where the band entertained listeners ...

Gratitude songs
$14.59 At this point in their career, Theatre of Tragedy has all but eschewed their Scandinavian metal roots in a direction that is a lot closer to Siouxsie & the Banshees jamming with Ace of Base. No, that's not a joke. Even more surprising, Theatre of Tragedy pulls off the synth pop quite admirably. Much of the disc has a somewhat retro quality to it, paying homage to the '80s -- "Play" sounds like the Pet Shop Boys would have sounded had they been clad in black lipstick and leather when recording "West End Girls" and "Superdrive" could have been the B-side to "Like a Virgin"; however, it also has a space-age modern feel as well, further adding to the schizophrenic nature of Assembly. Death metal growls are completely missing, and frankly, not missed. Like ...
