| Different Kind Of Cash This album from 1960 was a change in pace for Cash. Instead of the usual stripped-down arrangements of the Tennessee Two (later Three), here we get to hear Johnny Cash recorded with a traditional country backing, such as steel guitar, played by Hank Williams's steel player Don Helms, and fiddle. Steve Earle Exit 0 CD (1987)
Now, There Was A Song! Memories From The Past album for sale This is the 1987 follow-up to Steve Earle & The Dukes' debut, GUITAR TOWN. Like its predecessor, EXIT O mixes toughness with tang, grit with passion, and social consciousness with rowdy fun. The Dukes were the perfect compliment to Earle's songs, as they were able to roar as well as weep. "The Rain Came Down" is a mid-tempo ballad that's suffused with the gorgeous wash of Ken Moore's organ playing on the choruses. The ensemble can also convincingly tackle a roadhouse rocker like "The Week of Living Dangerously" with guts and aplomb. The "woo-woo" vocals are a surprise out of the blue, and their contrast to the relentless of the surrounding playing can induce chills. Throughout, the sound is vivid and crystalline. Earle's vocals buzz through and around it all like crazy and elegant embroidery on an old blanket.

Heather Headley This Is Who I Am CD (2002)
Now, There Was A Song! Memories From The Past songs Heather Headley was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best New Artist. "I Wish I Wasn't" was nominated for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
The first solo album from Heather Headley, who won a 1998 Tony for her performance in Tim Rice and Elton John's AIDA, is slick, contemporary urban R&B with just a hint of her native Trinidadian background. Songs such as the sizzling album-opener "He Is" and the sultry "Always Been Your Girl" demonstrate her range, while the after-hours appeal of "Nature of a Man" is undeniable.
There's little trace of Headley's theatrical roots save in the variety of moods she's able to conjure, and she makes the crossover from stage to recording studio seem almost effortless. While she's obviously more at home with the balladry of songs such as "Fulltime," the lighthearted pop swing of "Sunday" is a charming hint of what she may be capable of on future outings.

Lazy Ike and the Daredevils Someday CD (2003)
Now, There Was A Song! Memories From The Past album for sale "When Lazy Ike Ely of Lazy Ike and the Daredevils starts singing, he can convey a message of love and heartbreak in just one breath. The persistence of heartbreak and longing as themes in their music make it clear that artists like Johnny Cash, Hank Williams Sr. and even Elvis have had an influence on the Minneapolis-based band. This is the type of band that can make you drink shots of cheap whiskey out of the blue; it¹s the sound that shouts from the jukebox at 3 a.m. The Daredevils aren¹t just about crying in your beer though, they can also get you movin¹ with one nasty rip of a guitar chord. Daredevil indeed: they¹ll take on all comers, and still keep the house rocking long into the night."
-- by Louis Lenzmeier, "Pulse of the Twin Cities"
RootsTown Music Free-zine, 46 - 2003
"Lazy Ike & The Daredevils originally come from Minneapolis but (made) their way to Tennessee where they landed at the Sun studio in Memphis. This mini-cd with eight tracks is an ode to their heroes and their musical roots: hillbilly, R&B, honky tonk, rockabilly, Bakersfield sounds - Buck Owens, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Charlie Feathers, Jimmy Lee - recorded in the Sun sutdio. To my opinion, these Daredevils play more honky tonk and Bakersfield stuff than fifties Sun rockabilly. Three songs are my favorites: "Last Night I Drank Myself Sober," that could be a hit in the country charts; "Dull Razor Blues," uptempo honky tonk, and "Dinner For One," that begs to be covered by Dwight Yoakam. The only traditional amongst the songs is a cover of "Down By The Riverside," here in a fierce uptempo countryrock version. A fine record, but with its 25 minutes, a little bit short. And the '50s Sun rockabilly they relate to on their Web site really doesn't make up for the majority on the record. Maybe that's something for their next recording session. (BV)

(Lazy Ike and the Daredevils) has quietly taken over Trailer Trash's old regular Wednesday night Lee's gig and not missed a beat, providing solid old-timey Country music with fresh modern interpretation, not forgetting to give it a good beat so you can dance to it. Greg "Lazy Ike" Huff has a voice very similar to Mark Stuart of the Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash, but with a lot rounder tone and less cigarette damage. The band recently put out a very solid collection of new music on their disk "Someday." Songs like "Someday, Someone," "Last Night I Drank Myself Sober," and "Long, Tall, Shadows" are perfect drinkin' dancin' barfightin' numbers and they feel, sound and smell like they were born from the classic wood-paneling and shiny floors of Lee's. If you're a fan of anyone from Faron Young to Buck Owens to the Flying Burritos to Reverend Horton Heat to the Bastard Sons to BR549, you're going to enjoy this disk and any Lazy Ike live show. Here's to hoping there's always a good show at Lee's on a Wednesday night to twirl yer girl, and that the Daredevils lay down that beat for weeks, months and years to come.
