When he signed with Epic Records in the late '80s, Alice Cooper scored his biggest hit in years, 1989's platinum TRASH (which spawned the top-ten hit single "Poison"). While his next two releases (1991's HEY STOOPID and 1994's LAST TEMPTATION) didn't match the success of his Epic debut, Cooper retained his core audience and remained one of heavy metal's perennial concert attractions. With material from three albums to choose from, Epic assembled a greatest-hits package, 1995's CLASSICKS, which also includes live performances of his vintage '70s hits, recorded at a concert in Birmingham, England in December of 1989.
Highlights include the latter-day material like "Hey Stoopid," "Poison," "Lost in America," "Love's a Loaded Gun," and "It's Me." But the live renditions of Cooper's vintage material show why many consider Cooper one of the godfathers of metal and glam--"No More Mr. Nice Guy," "School's Out," and "I'm Eighteen" still hold up magnificently all these years later. And as a bonus, a previously unreleased cover of Jimi Hendrix's "Fire" is included.

You can't get much more specialized than this four-CD box when it comes to historical recordings, but it's an impressive accomplishment with great value for researchers into Mexican music and history. The 180-page booklet (informative social history notes, period photos, and full English-Spanish lyrics for all 59 songs) in The Mexican Revolution place the corrido as a people's newspaper (see calypso, rai) in depicting events associated with the early-20th century political developments in Mexico. The songs are mini history lessons and exercises in popular myth-making, which make them a pretty direct link to the current crop of narco-corridos released by Los Tigres del Norte and others. They were almost certainly the vehicle for the vast majority of everyday Mexicans to hear the details of major battles, or events related to the life of Pancho Villa, or the heroism of some local figures who otherwise would have passed into anonymity. The earliest track, "Jesús Leal" by Rafael Herrera Robinson, was recorded to wax cylinder in 1904 and may be the first corrido ever recorded and a second comes from 1908, so the depth of the research is obvious. KILT’s project was born in 2001, in the cold and dark Ferrara’s country, from a dream of four young guys. Hardly fifteen-year-old boys, covering Red hot Chilli Peppers, Rage Against The Machine, Incubus, creating their own cover repertory, which was even of a quite high level, and trying to stand out as an alternative cover-band, making a name of their propensity for the ‘90 rock sounds.
