| | Big Audio Dynamite Planet Bad Greatest Hits CD Big Audio Dynamite Discography of CDs
After leaving the Clash, Mick Jones struck out with a surprising burst of creativity. Big Audio Dynamite's sound had punk energy, thumping hip-hop beats, and a cinematic feel, with samples from both spaghetti westerns and cult classics.
PLANET BAD... leans towards the band's early material from its first two groundbreaking albums, with cuts such as "Bottom Line," "Medicine Show," "C'mon Every Beatbox," and "Sightsee MC!" Representing its mid-period, there's the purist plea to "Just Play Music," and the celebration of Joe Normal in "Other 99." After an illness in the late 80's, Jones rebounded with a revamped line up and the sweeping commercial success of both the awkwardly charming "Rush" and the rap-flavored "Globe." Despite the inclusion of some of its spotty later material, PLANET BAD offers a comprehensive overview of the band's decade-plus long career.

| | Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols CD (1977)
Planet Bad Greatest Hits CD music
$8.99 Rotten's snarling, distinctly British delivery of his agitational lyrics made Dylan sound like Mario Lanza, and the pile-driver guitars of Glen Matlock and Steve Jones move the songs along like a well-oiled but ornery machine. For all their iconoclasm, though, the Pistols were far more indebted to traditional pop song format (and dynamics) than most of the punk bands that followed in their ...

| | Black Uhuru Sinsemilla CD (1980) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Planet Bad Greatest Hits album
$6.85 Only a shade less great than 1981's RED, 1980's SINSEMILLA, Black Uhuru's debut on Island Records, is still mightily impressive. Powered by the songwriting and distinctive, soulful tenor of Michael Rose, and sweetened by the harmonies of Derrick "Duckie" Simpson and Sandra "Puma" Jones (the use of the male/female vocal trio was the group's defining characteristic), Black Uhuru combined roots reggae and hypnotic, almost futuristic grooves. Unlike many roots acts from the '60s and '70s, Black Uhuru wasn't afraid to incorporate keyboard-generated sounds into the mix. Spacey synth accents join earthy rhythms and traditional Rasta themes--Black ...
| | Tone-Loc Loc-Ed After Dark CD (1989)
Planet Bad Greatest Hits CD music
$9.65 A forgotten man in the rise of West Coast rap, Tone-Loc was effectively cut off from his hometown scene in Los Angeles by his unexpected pop success. Paced by the singles "Wild Thing" and "Funky Cold Medina" -- both co-written by a pre-fame Young MC, and some of the earliest productions by the legendary Dust Brothers -- Loc's debut album, Loc-ed After Dark, became the second rap album to top the pop charts, following the Beastie Boys' Licensed to Ill. Loc's distinctively rough, raspy voice and easygoing delivery made him an appealing storyteller, but he was aiming for the streets ...
