UNPLUGGED isn't Alice In Chains' first unplugged record; it's just the first official, MTV-sanctioned one. The EPs JAR OF FLIES and SAP are both low-key, mostly-acoustic outings that achieved a similar vibe without the benefit of an MTV appearance. Which is to say Alice In Chains isn't jumping on a bandwagon here; they're doing more of something they do very well.
UNPLUGGED features acoustic versions of songs from every record in the Seattle band's catalog except its debut, FACELIFT. And it heavily features guitarist Jerry Cantrell, who wrote or co-wrote 12 of these 13 songs, including the previously-unrecorded "Killer Is Me." Cantrell's vocals pace that one along with "Heaven Beside You" and "Over Now." Lead singer Layne Staley, meanwhile, finds a fitting outlet here for his creaky voice, particularly as he tackles harrowing images of drug addiction in "Sludge Factory" and "Down In A Hole."

This is a must have for any fan of 90's music. The vocals, lyrics... everything is beautiful.

It starts off with Jerry Cantrell playing the intro off Nutshell while the other members comes in along and joins him. The song is followed by other classic AIC songs like; Down In A Hole, Rooster, Angry Chair, Heaven Beside You and No Excuses, and the show ends with a completely new song called Killer Is Me. Everything is so amazingly beatyfull that I almost could cry!

This album is the greatest unplugged album of all-time. Nothing comes close to Alice In Chains Unplugged. Many can make a case that Nirvana Unplugged is better, but Alice In Chains blows Nirvana away.But I'm still an Nirvana fan. On this album they open up with "Nutshell",in my opinion Alice In Chains' best song. Others good songs on this album are:Brother,No Exuses,Sludge Factory,Rooster,Would,Heaven Beside You,Down In A Hole,Got Me Wrong,and Angry Chair. The other songs are still good. Buy this album and you would be spending your money on a quality album(Not the sh*t that they call music today)They don't let you curse on this site.Layne-R.I.P

You have to add one virtue to the many cited for the Byrds -- they knew the best song-bags and catalogs to choose from in their covers, even if not all of the latter were always entirely successful. One is reminded of that anew listening to this collection, which might just as easily have been called "Roger McGuinn's Record Collection" or something of that sort. It's a compelling compilation of songs that, to varying degrees (and sometimes, in all honesty, minimally) became associated with the Byrds in the second half of the '60s and the early '70s. But in the company of Pete Seeger, Porter Wagoner ("A Satisfied Mind"), Wanda Jackson ("My Destiny"), the Louvin Brothers ("The Christian Life"), Merle Travis ("I Am a Pilgrim"), Gene Autry ("Blue Canadian Rockies"), Bill Monroe & His Blue Grass Boys ("Shady Grove"), Leadbelly
("Take a Whiff on Me"), Blind Willie Johnson ("John Revelator"), Woody Guthrie ("Pretty Boy Floyd," "Deportee"), et al, the Byrds themselves seem like relatively small potatoes, and that comes from a huge fan of the group. Pete Seeger is the most heavily represented artist here, accounting for six of the 22 tracks on this CD, any of which would quality for a place on a best-of his work, and most of the rest would occupy similar places of honor for their respective artists. (And that leads one to wonder why Sony Music's Legacy division didn't think of this collection -- perhaps assemble everything here and then gather together ...
