Personnel: Joe Satriani (guitar, keyboards, percussion); John Cuniberti (vocals, percussion); Jeff Campitelli (whistling, keyboards, drums, percussion). Recording information: Hyde Street Studios, San Francisco, CA (1985). Photographers: Pat Johnson ; Glen LaFerman. Unknown Contributor Role: Bernie Grundman. Arranger: Joe Satriani. Not of This Earth was the first studio release from guitar wizard Joe Satriani (not counting the hard-to-find Joe Satriani EP). This all-instrumental album was making ripples in the guitar-playing community not long after it was released, and it's easy to see why: superior compositions, a signature style, a unique tone, and playing that's out of this world. Satriani shifts musical gears deftly, often layering multiple tracks together to make a complex soundscape. The fiery sound of "Not of This Earth" and "Hordes of Locusts" is tempered by the cool, dark tone of "Driving at Night," the far-out Eastern approach of "The Snake," and the quiet, thoughtful "Rubina." Satriani's fluid playing and wicked licks are enough to drop jaws and widen eyes. There isn't a weak track on this disc, even though the guitarist was still maturing when he released it. ~ Phil Carter Joe Satriani Not Of This Earth Songs | 1. | Not of This Earth | $0.99 | |

| Not Of This Earth Music Review Average Rating: (3.5 out of 5 stars) Kick ass this album is my favourite of Joe's, although i am a great fan of retro 80's rock, metal and other stuff, thats not the reason why i like it. I think its very futuristic and to this day is still covering ground knowone has covered, its mystical, magical and a great masterpeice. Some great shredding at melodies in it and my personal favourite track is "the snake" cause just covers like a million styles and sounds in one track ,,,IT ROCKS Submitted by mostexcellent (Jersey) Was This Review Helpful? cool! This is my only satch cd and while I didn't like it at first It has grown on me a bit solely because of the cool guitaring. If you're a fan of shred check this album out. Some highlights include Memories and the title track. Avoid "driving at night" and "the snake" as the are painfully retro! Submitted by tim_thomson666 (Dunedin, New Zealand) Was This Review Helpful? Early Joe, but still rips This album deserves more than three stars for sure. There are three of his best songs of all time on this record in Rubina, Memories, and Hordes of Locusts, which displays Joe's already considerable skills. To say that Joe was not mind blowing on this album is an injustice. Joe showed a wide range of styles on this album, and in my opinion, did distinguish himself from the "shreders" of the late 80's by reaching for something different in songs like New Day, and The Headless Horseman. Joe brought about a new two handed tapping teqnique that sounds very piano like, and was very unique. There is no doubt that Joe would become known for Surfing With The Alien, and rightfully so as it is a 5 star effort that has some of the best guitar playing ever recorded, but don't overlook the songs on Not of This Earth. There is some serious ripping going on, not to mention some sick layering on songs like Hordes of Locusts. One other thing about this album; the tone. To me, Joe is the undisputed master of guitar tone in instrumental music. It has only gotten better every year, as has his playing, but you can hear the genisis of his screaming style in full bloom here. There are only 2 reasons this album did not get 5 stars from me. I don't care much for The Snake, and the production is dated (too much drum machine too). Submitted by brian (san jose, ca) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Not the Joe You Know Yet Joe Satriani's debut album came out amid a practical flood of guitar instrumental albums in the mid 1980s. In the beginning it was hard for one guitarist to differentiate themselves from all the others. Joe's album is not particularly compelling in any way or head and shoulders above the rest. Don't get me wrong, it's a good album worth owning and there are some great cuts (title track, The Enigmatic, Driving At Night), but fans of the present-day sonic, soaring, mind-blowing Joe may be a little disappointed. He hadn't quite reached those levels yet. Like I said, though, it's worth owning just be prepared. Submitted by a reviewer (D Horimoto Lynn Haven, FL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Personnel: Rivers . Audio Mixer: Rich Costey. Words such as "goofy" and "geeky" have long been used to describe Weezer's music, but these qualities are only one aspect of the band's sound; beneath all the humorous pop culture references and snarky attitude, Rivers Cuomo touched upon a myriad of serious topics including existential angst, aging, and sexual mores. While at first listen RADITUDE seems to be one of the Weezer's silliest albums (song titles include "The Girl Hot Hot" and "In the Mall"), there is, as usual, more than meets the ear. Even on the paean to debauchery "Can't Stop Partying" (the lyrics of which were written by rapper Jermaine Dupri), there is a certain undercurrent of melancholy, suggesting that the song may be simultaneously a celebration and a cry for help. Not Of This Earth
$11.25 Personnel: Karen O (vocals); Thorsten Wörmann (spoken vocals); Dave Fridmann (programming). Audio Mixers: Dave Fridmann; Flaming Lips. Recording information: Dull Roar Studios, Oklahoma City, OK (02/2009-07/2009); Tarbox Road Studios, Cassadaga, NY (02/2009-07/2009). CHRISTMAS ON MARS might be the Flaming Lips' bona fide sci-fi epic, but EMBRYONIC is the musical equivalent of the final scenes of 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY: transformative chaos that results in a new start. From THE SOFT BULLETIN onward, the Lips seemed focused on tidying the loose ends of their earlier work, almost to the point of constraining themselves. Their wilder side is unleashed on Embryonic's 18 tracks, ...
| | Brandi Carlile Give Up The Ghost CD (2009)
Not Of This Earth
$11.35 Audio Mixer: Jason Lader. If there was any flaw with Brandi Carlile's second album, THE STORY, it's that it was perhaps a touch too austere, painted in amber tones by producer T Bone Burnett. Its 2009 sequel, GIVE UP THE GHOST, opens up and breathes, perhaps partially due to swapping T Bone for Rick Rubin, who retains the spooky, serious vibe but makes things a little less ...

Not Of This Earth
$14.75 Consistently spiking traditional Cajun music with many modern elements in their decade-spanning career, Beausoleil always shine brightest in the least purism-minded of arenas: a live show in front of a dance-floor packed with two-stepping couples. MAKE THE VEILLER features a live disc and a dvd of a set performed in 2007 that touches upon all the elements in their Cajun-fusion sound: Zydeco, jazz, and even rock & roll. From more traditional material like the two lead-off tracks "Acadian Two Step" and "Reel de Dennis McGee" to the minor-key, ironically named "Mardi Gras Song" (hint: it's about Hurricane Katrina) and the near-bluegrass picking of "Jeunes Filles de La Compagne", MAKE THE VEILLER features many stellar tracks--each one ripe for dancing--from the best in the business of traditional Louisiana sounds. Formed in 1975 by fiddler ...
