A Bone Thugs-n-Harmony with more polish to their harmonies and fewer rough edges image-wise, Jagged Edge performs well on their debut album, getting into the groove on singles "The Way That You Talk" and "Gotta Be," each of which is impeccably produced by Jermaine Dupri. There are a few songs that don't work at all on A Jagged Era, but for the most part, the quartet sounds interesting. ~ John Bush Contemporary R&B gets that much smoother with the debut album of modern soul quartet Jagged Edge. Produced primarily by Jermaine "Don Chichio" Dupri, these tracks bump, grind, simmer and smolder with rough-and-ready beats and shining harmonies. The group's emotions are on the table throughout, as the pleasures of a "Wednesday Lover" and the domestic sensibility of "The Rest Of Our Lives" are detailed. Hailing from Atlanta, Brasco, Case Dinero, Wingo Dollar and Quick combine a real street feel with obvious Gospel roots. Sunday morning vibratos sail over infectious piano and guitar lines and well-arranged keyboards. And Jagged Edge have invited some friends along--special guests Da Brat and JD throw down rhymes on the funky, quietly nasty single, "The Way That You Talk," while the one and only Busta Rhymes breaks it up on "I'll Be There." This is the cutting edge where hip-hop, soul, and the new R&B ride together on the groove.

Jagged Era MP3 Album
$17.45 (MP3 Available for Download) Over the decades, James Brown collaborated with, and encouraged, some of funk's leading ladies. During the '60s and early '70s in particular, every Brown show featured a 15 or 20 minute break turning it over to a young female singer who'd perform her own mini set. It is these women who are collected across this marvelous and historically potent two-disc set making this is a crucial collection of the original women who rock -- the soul and funk divas who paved the way including Bea Ford, Yvonne Fair, Anna King, Vicki Anderson, Lyn Collins, Martha High and more. Disc One focuses on his Sixties material while Disc Two features focuses on his Seventies output. Both discs features A and B-sides along with previously unreleased and rare versions! 46-tracks in all. Long deleted in the US. Universal.
