Lauryn Hill Miseducation of Lauryn Hill CD (1998)
#1's CD music THE MISEDUCATION OF LAURYN HILL won the 1999 Grammy Award for Album Of The Year and Best R&B Album. Lauryn Hill won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best New Artist. "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You" was nominated for the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. "Doo Wop (That Thing)" won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song. "Everything Is Everything" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
Lauryn Hill is far from miseducated, as her solo debut album proves. With both critical and popular acclaim from her affiliation with the Fugees, Lauryn uses THE MISEDUCATION OF LAURYN HILL to make a definitive individual statement. The focus here is love: love of self, love of her son, the love of her life, love of hip-hop. Her powerful lyrics and vocal talent put her in a class by herself.
One of hip-hop's more strong-willed artists, Lauryn's positivity defies the '90s materialistic rap scene. Although there is much more singing than rapping, Lauryn still covers plenty of hip-hop ground on THE MISEDUCATION, and her music falls into the rap category just as much as it does into R&B. Produced by Hill herself, this album gives us only a few guest artists (D'Angelo, Mary J.) but lots of Lauryn Hill.

George Michael Ladies & Gentlemen: The Best of George Michael CDs (1998) Top Seller
#1's songs Though he made his initial mark on music history as half of the unctuous British duo Wham, George Michael wasted little time in proving himself more than just a pretty pop face. This comprehensive two-disc compilation documents the career of a man who was able to successfully meld pop, R&B and serious, introspective balladry without ever losing sight of the all-important groove and hook.
Thankfully, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN doesn't skimp on tracks from Michael's classic solo debut, and tracks like Bo Diddley beat-driven "Faith" and the lusty, Prince-like "I Want Your Sex" sound as fresh as ever. Later cuts show Michael's maturation as both a vocalist and songwriter, and collaborations with Elton John and bossa nova legend Astrud Gilberto serve to emphasize the wide stylistic range Michael is capable of traversing.

Alanis Morissette Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie CD (1998) Top Seller
#1's album for sale "Thank U" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
Alanis has a lot to answer for; in the process of changing the face of '90s pop music, she opened the door to scores of inferior imitators who crowded the charts with their transparent careerist fury. What they missed was the renegade spirit that lurks beneath Morissette's statements off vengeance and dissatisfaction. It's that spirit that enlivens INFATUATION JUNKIE. From awkward title to the unconventional lyrical construction, it's clear that the years between this album and Morisette's previous breakthrough recording have not dulled her iconoclasm or put soft edges on her anger. INFATUATION JUNKIE is at once more immediate and more artfully constructed than its predecessor. Songs like "Baba" are full of thrusting guitars and sledgehammer rhythms, but from "Front Row" to "So Pure," Morissette displays an expanded understanding of pop song mechanics. It's this melodic progression that helps INFATUATION JUNKIE live up to Morissette's daunting past.
Recorded at Royaltone Studios, Los Angeles, California.
Personnel: Alanis Morissette (vocals, flute, harmonica, piano); Glen Ballard (guitar, piano, synthesizer, programming); Joel Shearer, Nick Lashley (guitar); Benmont Tench (organ, chamberlin); Gary Novak (drums, percussion); Chris Fogel, Shad T. Scott (programming).

Brandy Never Say Never CD (1998)
#1's CD music NEVER SAY NEVER was nominated for a 1999 Grammy Award for Best R&B Album. "The Boy Is Mine" won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal, and was nominated for Record Of The Year and Best R&B Song. "Almost Doesn't Count" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
Avoiding the dreaded sophomore slump, Brandy delivers a fresh-sounding, well- crafted second album that sounds as much like pop as it does R&B. NEVER SAY NEVER features a song, "Have You Ever?," that was written by mega-songstress Diane Warren and produced by super-producer David Foster. The lead single, "The Boy is Mine" is a duet with fellow R&B'er Monica. Keeping up with the trend of big-time collaborations, multi-platinum rapper Mase makes an appearance on "Top of the World," which seems custom made for jeep jockeys.
Although sprinkled with other contributors, most of the album was produced by Rodney Jerkins. With a focus that is sometimes lost on a follow-up to a smashing debut, Brandy's composure and experience shine through in a product that is 16 songs deep. The album also contains a cover of "Everything I Do (I Do It For You)," produced by Foster.
Personnel: Brandy (vocals, background vocals); Anas Allaf, Isaac Phillips, Michael Thompson , Rick Williams (guitar); Dean Parks (acoustic guitar); Darkchild Orchestra (strings); Harvey Mason, Sr. (keyboards, percussion); David Foster (keyboards); Chuckii Booker (drums, programming); Felipe Elgueta, Simon Franglen (programming); Donyle Jones, Dorian Holley, Nikisha Grierf, Willie R.
