When the youthful Silverchair first appeared in the landscape-changing wake of NEVERMIND, they were solidly in the Cobain-inspired grunge mold, coming off as young disciples worshipping at the Nirvana altar with little of their own to bring to the Seattle Sound party. In '99, with Cobain long gone and grunge a distant memory, NEON BALLROOM appeared to be a bridge between Silverchair's copycat beginnings and a more adventurous future. While the heavy riffs, raspy vocals and Cobainish melodies of yesteryear are still in evidence here, the sound is greatly expanded. From a string section to delicate acoustic passages and even an appearance by classical pianist David Helfgott (of Shine fame), Silverchair works overtime to broaden their sonic horizons.

Simply Amazing
Never before in my life have I heard an album with more emotion put into it than Neon Ballroom. Ironically, although I am a really big Silverchair fan, I was avoiding this cd for a long time for fear of how it would sound as a mix of the old, grungey sound and the new strings-laced direction they were heading. It is now my favorite CD.
Fans looking for the "old" Silverchair will relish in Anthem For the Year 2000 and Satin Sheets, but the highlights of the album lie in what they hadn't touched before. Songs like Paint Pastel Princess, Emotion Sickness and Miss You love will give you goosebumps when you really listen to the emotion put into these songs. I highly reccommend this cd to practically anyone.

im a HUGE silverchair fan! and well this album roxz! its very diffrent from frogstomp and freak show but, its very....intimite... the album is all basically about Daniel Johns battle with Anorexia... its very touching thwe album is just.... awesome! and its my favorite album...so if you buy this cd you will be satisfied and glad you bought it... :)

This was the start of a beautiful relationship this band had internationally so I thought I give this album a shot. It varies. Wonder why it dropped out of the charts so quickly after its release? Oh well. Anyone dig for strings especially piano on Emotion Sickness? It rocks :)
