$16.29 The Beatles! Is Paul Dead? Very Rare Recording! In the fall of 1969—shortly after the release of the Beatles’ Abbey Road—a rumor swept America concerning the death of Paul McCartney. While this rumor was very popular on college campuses, the widespread acceptance of this rumor reached such proportions that stories of the phenomenon were subjects of news reports and publications no less respect than the New York Times, Time Magazine, and the cover story of Life Magazine. It was the cover of Abbey Road that started it all. Why was Paul barefoot and out of step? Was John dressed in white representing a religious person? Was Ringo dressed like a mortician and George dressed as a shabby grave digger? What about the policeman on the other side of the street? Fans started listen to their albums with new ears and were finding all kinds of messages in the music. Join us as we go over all the clues, searching album covers, lyrics and even playing some song backwards. What were the Beatles up to? When asked about placing clues and hidden massage in their albums, the Beatles always skirted the issue and just laughed. It was the cover of Abbey Road that started it all.In the fall of 1979 as Paul McCartney and Wings were touring the UK on "Wings over Europe tour". A radio show was hitting the airways in the United States, called "Is Paul Dead Turn me on Dead Man". The second wave of Beatle Mania hit in full stride. When Beatle John Lennon was killed in December 1980 the show was pulled off the airways. 1980 would turn out to be a hard year for the Beatles and their fans, with Paul's Drug bust in Japan and his world tour cancelled and the death of John it seemed that the hope of the Beatles was gone. Then in the summer of 1981 interest in the radio program "Is Paul dead? Turn me on dead man" revived again. The show was aired again in the fall of 1981 and then it was gone off the airways just as fast as it came. In the late 1990's as Paul McCartney publishing company MPL started asking media from around the world for any related Paul McCartney and Wings stuff, like, radio files, news clips, pictures anything the public had on Wings for the making of the documentary "Wingspan, An intimate Portrait". I stumble upon a gem, an old taping of "Is Paul Dead? Turn me on dead man". On the box it read "Aired November 15, 1981 Radio station K96". I was shocked when we played it that you could hear anything at all with large fads in and outs, sounds levels all over the place and a lot of noise. Did I say a lot of noise! The real work began on restoring the program. It was decided to leave the tape just as it aired on the radio with all the commercials in tact. We wanted to keep that feel of the true recording and the feel of a radio program. At the end of track 1 on the CD the music just ends and track 2 begins. That is because the tape broke right ...
