Dive album Product Description
Dive album by Sarah Brightman was released Apr 20, 1993 on the A&M (USA) label. Recorded with a large contingency of German musicians, British stage-diva Sarah Brightman's Dive is a loose concept album tied together by a common thread of nautical references. Opening with the short, spoken-word piece that is the title track, there are constant images of the sea throughout the lyrics. The material sounds like what you would expect from Brightman's ex-husband Andrew Lloyd Webber. It's all fairly pretentious power ballads, but there's no denying that they're melodic. Brightman has a powerful set of pipes and, actually, shows a good deal of restraint. There are several songs that are a cut above like "Captain Nemo" and "Seven Seas." She does go over the top on her cover of Procol Harum's "A Salty Dog," but she redeems herself with the closer, "The Second Element II." The song, a reprise of an earlier track, is a stripped-down, acoustic affair with a subdued vocal by Brightman. ~ Tom Demalon Recorded at Nemo Studios, Hamburg, Germany. ...See Full Description

A fun CD from a living legend Sarah Brightman's "DIVE" album is unique in her anthology in that it contains no opera-esque tracks, reminiscent of her previous accolades. While many may see "DIVE" as a cruel departure from Brightman's routine, I feel that it's a solid breath of fresh air, something that can be similarly felt in her "FLY" and "HAREM" albums, and in the "HAREM" concert (I saw her in Seattle and WOW! A must see!) I was especially surprised to hear the cover of Sandra's "Johnny Wanna Live," written by Michael Cretu, the man behind "Enigma!" I truly believe that Sandra's rendition is slightly better, but the track, as well as the rest of the album, are an amazingly rich departure from the norm. By Michael (Irvine, CA, USA)
Atmospheric Pop! This is the CD Sarah made a cross-over to atmospheric pop music. It's very obvious to notice on this CD the shift of her singing style from operatic to pop. This shift showcases how talented Ms Brightman is not only as a operatic singer but she is also capable of carrying a pop tune to perfection. This CD also mark the beginning of a great collaboration with the talented Frank Petersen. Many songs featured on this album sound alike with similar productions. However, instead of making them repetitive, it helps these atmospheric songs flow from one to another making this one of Sarah's bests. By a reviewer (middletown, CT)
She's really a Dive of celestial sounds Sara has kept the high level of her outstanding voice, she is the Diva of Heaven's sound. By fjoseph_bravo (Mexico City, Mexico)
Fantastic music by Sarah as usual. I will be buying this CD as soon as I can. Great songs and musical background. Sarah never falters. I can never hear too much of her. Captain Memo is fantastic. Three cheers for this wonderful lady. By rosebowler43 (Australia.)
| A pop success! If you're expecting something similar to "Eden" or "Timeless", stay away from this album! However, if you're of the younger generation or love delicious catchy pop, this album is a must! It will wrap you in new-age lyrically and meltingly beautiful tunes. If you've seen the "one night in eden" concert DVD, you'll be familar with the songs Captain Nemo, and La Mer. The other songs are just as great. Candy for the ears, that's all I have to say!
