Although it's pop-oriented, it still offers plenty of fine Montgomery. ~ Ron Wynn Wes Montgomery's final record (before his death from a heart attack at age 45) is, as with his two previous A&M releases, pure pop. The great guitarist sticks to simple melody statements (with a lot of octaves thrown in) while backed by Don Sebesky's unimaginative arrangements for an orchestra; commercially the combination was a big success. Unless one really has the desire to hear such songs as "Greensleeves," "Fly Me to the Moon," "Yesterday" and "Scarborough Fair" played perfectly straight, this strictly for-the-money effort can be safely passed by. ~ Scott Yanow Wes Montgomery Road Song Songs Purchase Road Song CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Wes Montgomery Day In The Life CD (1967)

Part of the same downtown avant-garde scene that produced John Zorn and his ilk, the Microscopic Septet employed traditional jazz instrumentation in the service of a whole blender full of mismatched genres--funk, noise-rock, bop--the results of which captivated New York audiences for over 10 years at the end of the 20th century.
