| The beginning of a historic and monumental solo career. Clapton finally gets out on his own here, with his first album simply titled "Eric Clapton". While it may not be his best album, it contains many recognizable hits, including "Let It Rain", "Blues Power", "After Midnight", and many others. It's worth the money, and five stars. By this time, Clapton was already considered a god (if not the God....) by many. Simply because it is his first solo album, and it also contains many worthwhile songs, it's a must have in your EC collection. By pnsy83 (philadelphia, pa) |
| Why is this in short supply Out of all Claptons albums, this is honest. An artist looking to land on his feet. $61, One in Every.., Backless, suck. This album should be readible avaliable. By stratfan (battle creek, MI) |
| Finally a version that beats the bootleg The Delaney Mix of this recording has been floating about on bootleg almost since this was originally released. And truth be told the audio quality was VG+. But here on Disc #2 we can finally appreciate what Delaney "heard' when he produced this LP. (Disc 1 is the original Tom Dowd mix so you can compare them track to track.) Delaney's mix is rawer, more in line with his sound. More piano and horns are evident in his mix. Also Clapton's quitar has less sheen than on the Dowd mix. The remastering on the recording makes this worth getting for the sonic upgrade alone. There are several bonus tracks included on both discs that are interesting but not essential. The lone exception is the 45 mix of "Comin' Home" released by Delaney and Bonnie and Friends featuring Eric Clapton. This tune first appeared on the Crossroads box set but the remastering here makes this leap out of the speakers. The album is a great look at an emerging solo artist who next released "Layla" using most of the band assembled here. A great way to spend $20.00. | At long last, deluxe version is here! 1970 has been a one hell of a year in rock, for most of the major stars, but especially for E.C. He produced not only this gem, but Layla and In Concert (albeit published not before 1973) as Derek & the Dominos. So much was he at the top of his game that whatever exists taped from this golden year (official or bootleg) is an absolute must. Same stands for this expanded album that offers a glimpse in a way this classic may have eventually sounded. For us, die-hard fans, it is both a revelation and a aural treat. | One of his best! This record first came out in 1970 and it was Claptons first solo-record. There are some really classic songs here such as "After midnight" and "Let it rain". This is not one of his blues-records or pop-records, actually it is somewhere in between. There is gospel, soul, blues, rock, pop. If you don`t own it i would recommend you to buy it, not for the extrastuff but for the actual original album. By Heynow! (Gothenburg,Sweden) This review is for a different format. |
