| | Head East Flat As A Pancake CD Head East Discography of CDs
(9 Customer Reviews)
Showing off Head East's intriguing and quite effective blend of hard melodic rock with progressive rock tendencies and awesome vocal arrangements, this disc is a classic. Opening with the band's trademark "Never Been Any Reason," the CD includes several other exceptionally strong numbers and none that qualify as "weak." The other standout numbers on the disc are "Jefftown Creek" and "City of Gold." This disc is truly one of the best the band ever did, and it is a shame that they never made it further than they did, since this CD shows that they really had star potential. ~ Gary Hill

Great Album, with good follow up lp's Flat As A Pancake, catchie title, and great hard driving beat. Head East was a midwest band, that appealled to a wide variety of listerners. They wrote about things they wanted to write about and things that were important to them. While other bands (Aerosmith, Kiss, etc., sored to the top) Head East continued to be their own bosses. Their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th lps. were great, equals to Flat As A Pancake. if not better. However these are out of print. The members of the band like may groups had personal problems and such which lead to replacement members and eventually the break up of all orginal members, except keyboadist Roger Boyd. Last I knew Roger was a professor at a local St Louis College. The band occasionally tours in the mid-west. They still know how to ROCK hard. I've seen them in the hayday's and also at somefund-raisers in the mid-west. It would be awesome if the rest of the albums were re-released, especially, Get Yourself Up, Gettin Lucky, Live, and the East/West Sign. I just have one question? What the hell happened??? This was a phenomenal album back in the 70's followed up by some fair, if not great, material on subsequent releases! Then "poof"! No more Head East??? They must have headed West or something??? Kind of reminded me of Starcastle! Another promising group of the early 70's that just hit the charts big and vanished! It's a mystery to me! Submitted by mheinen3 (Oklahoma City, OK, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Excellent debut Almost perfect. An excellent debut album by Head East. Submitted by Matt (Waterloo, IL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Great Album, Great Band Hello, Bob. Head East put out EIGHT studio albums, one live album, and five compilation albums. Flat is excellent, powered by Never Been Any Reason, but the next five songs after that one are all very good rocking songs.
Flat is, in this writer's humble opinion, not even their best album. Their second offering, "Get Yourself Up" is even better. Watch for it to come out on CD and snap it up. You won't be sorry. Submitted by Vic (Spring, TX) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Flat As A Pancake
$6.75 Digitally remastered by Vic Anesini (Sony Music Studios, New York, New York).
Ted Nugent's self-titled 1975 debut solo release is a bold expression of gonzo guitarist's sound, image, and abundant attitude. Ted had what was essentially a touring band with Amboy Dukes bassist Rob Grange, fellow Michiganite Derek St. Holmes on vocals and guitar, and Cliff Davies on drums. During days off from the mega-road trip that preceded this album, the group recorded its first record. Co-produced by famed hard-rock/metal helmsman Tom Werman, "Stranglehold" has the impromptu jamming feel of a live show.
Like "Deuce" for Kiss, the first track of a first album can define an act. "Stranglehold" leads straight into the no-holds-barred "Stormtroopin'," where ...

| | Grand Funk Railroad Phoenix CD (1972) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Flat As A Pancake
$8.85 Having scored four consecutive Top Ten albums in the previous two years, Grand Funk Railroad may not have seemed to casual observers like a band who needed to rise phoenix-like from the ashes, but the title of the band's seventh album referred to its re-emergence after a litigious split from manager/producer Terry Knight. Now, they were producing themselves, and they added organist Craig Frost, credited here as a sideman, though he went on to join the band formally. The biggest change, however, was a musical maturity. After releasing five studio albums in a little over two years, Grand Funk waited more than a year before releasing Phoenix, and in that time they managed to come up with more variety than they had displayed before. "Someone," for example, was a surprisingly gentle ballad, and "Rain Keeps Fallin'" was stronger melodically than most ...
