Though it may not seem like much time, the five short years during which they recorded for A&M Records marked the most consistent period of Y&T's unfortunate career. And though they would sign a new contract with Geffen thereafter, their subsequent, glam-drenched efforts would prove even less inspired. So while hardly all encompassing, Best of '81 to '85 will satisfy the curious fan better than any other package, save perhaps for their excellent live album, Open Fire. The band's drab studio technique notwithstanding, tracks like "Open Fire," "Hurricane," "Mean Streak," and "I Believe in You" make a strong, cohesive statement about the group's songwriting, if not their performance. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia

Nice Collection Great 80's style AOR band that has often been brushed aside. Don't let the low price push you away, every track is a classic!
What you have here on this CD is just a taste of how great they were and would continue to be. Submitted by ILoveMickScream (Poughkeepsie, NY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
They ROCK!!!!! When I first heard "Yesterday and Today" I was blown away. 25 hours a day. Beautiful dreamer. And, sadly, Alcohol which is not on this one. Then I got "Black Tiger" and I was hooked for life. The power and the passion of Dave's vocals and guitar virtuosity. The frenzy of Leonard's frantic downbeat. Last, but most assuredly, not least, the groove laid down by Phil and Joey. Y & T is a true Rock-n-Roll Icon. This CD captures the very best of the Very Best!!!! A must have album An album, full of songs from Y&T's best years. Each song is a classic. In the '81 to '85 album you can find the better songs, which took place in later compilations of Y&T. A must-have CD for all the 80's heavy metal fans, that will take you back in time. Submitted by a reviewer (Cleveland, OH, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Solid early 80s metal Y&T should have been one of the biggest groups of the 80s, but it just didn't work out that way, possibly due to unconsistent albums following Earthshaker. That's why you really only need this album to experience Y&T. Great tracks like Black Tiger, Hurricane, Open Fire, I Believe In You, and Midnight In Tokyo make this album worth the purchase. However, some of the songs are not so good, like the terrible Summertime Girls or the horribly cliched Lipstick and Leather, so you can imagine, if this is the Best Of, what some other songs would sound like. Overall, if you want early 80s metal (okay, pop-metal), something a little lighter than Priest or Maiden, then pick this up. Submitted by mcsavage6 (Pittsburgh, PA) Was This Review Helpful? $10.05 Too many rockers have made the mistake of never providing an official live album, but thankfully, Y&T isn't one of them. Recorded at the San Jose Cabaret in San Jose, CA on December 28 and 31, 1990, this CD paints a most impressive picture of the Deep Purple-influenced heavy metal/hard-rock band. Heavy metal ...

Best Of Y & T 81-85 album
$16.45 Tucson-based Vicki Brown's violin-based improvisational and experimental organic creations reveal ethereal cinematic moodscapes. Most scores are a capitalization on chance with attention to impulses and intentions without attachment. A native of Wisconsin, she has considered Tucson her home since 1992 when she began graduate school. While she was working on her doctorate in psychology, she was also being heavily educated on the sounds wafting into her old barrio adobe abode from the next-door neighbors like Howe Gelb, John Convertino, Joey Burns and Rainer Ptacek. Almost immediately after finishing school in 2003, she had the serendipitous chance to study with Paul Horn who introduced her to the world of improvisation by stepping off the page and essentially writing your own history. She has not looked back ever since. Much of her music reflects the abstract and intangible yet comprehensible modeling of psychology with unique metrics to understand ourselves better. Her approach is largely to ...
