Originally released on LP as a double album.
Recorded live at The Fillmore East, New York.
Personnel: Steve Marriott (vocals, guitar, harmonica, keyboards); Peter Frampton (vocals, guitar); Jerry Shirley (drums).
Audio Remixer: Eddie Kramer.
Photographers: Joel Brodsky; Randy Alpert; Shepard Sherbell.
Arranger: Humble Pie.
Recorded in 1971, shortly before guitarist Peter Frampton left the band, ROCKIN' presents Humble Pie live at New York City's Fillmore East. The British blues-rock group charges through a sweaty, high-octane set (originally released as a double LP) that includes the blistering stompers "Four Day Creep," "Stone Cold Fever," and "I Don't Need No Doctor." Although the entire ensemble is in top form on this seven-song disc, the record is a showcase for the astoundingly powerful vocals of former Small Faces frontman Steve Marriott (who, in his hard-rock mode, prefigures AC/DC's Bon Scott) and the heavy-blues riffage of Frampton (surprisingly enough, the guy could wield an axe), who would, of course, go on to record his own wildly successful concert album later in the decade.
Recorded while Peter Frampton was still in the band, Performance: Rockin' the Fillmore captures an early performance by Humble Pie where Steve Marriot's lyricism and ideas where balanced by Frampton's searing lead guitar. This is hardly as engaging as As Safe Yesterday Is, which had studiocraft along with songcraft, but as a document of a band at a pivotal point in their existence, this is valuable and at times insightful. ~ Stephen Thomas ErlewineRolling Stone (12/23/71, p.65) - "...a powerful live recording whose weak moments in no way mitigate its overall impact. The good music here is so good that once you hear it, you'll want to own it..."

5 stars just like I remember it
Heres a cd that everyone who was a teenager in the 70's should have. Its just as powerful performance this day 35 years later if not better. You dont hear many groups that can get the people involved like humble pie. Steve Marriot's vocals and his warbling and Peter Framptons vocals and leads are just as rockin as I remember them. I am so glad I found this earl materpiece.

3 stars Hot Pie
This album is gloriously over the top. Bill Graham must've had to scrape Steve Marriott's lungs and vocal chords off the back wall of the Fillmore after the gig! Big riffing blues shouters from "Go" to "Whoah". Not for Radiohead or Moby fans. Buy this..turn it up loud and air guitar to Four Day Creep till the cows come home.

4 stars Sure it rocks
Performance-Rockin’ the Fillmore does what its title promises: it rocks from beginning until the end and is chockfull of energetic blues inspired-hard rock riffing. It clocks over 70 minutes (originally a double LP), but contains only 7 songs. The tracklist contains quite a few covers (Muddy Waters, Willy Dixon), but they all get that special Humble Pie treatment, making them sound as Pie-originals. Peter Frampton’s guitar solos are distinctive and melodic. This album shows that he is able to rock so much harder than on Frampton Comes Alive. Steve Marriot’s soulful voice perfectly fits the Humble Pie style. This album is essential listening for those who can appreciate no-nonsense guitar based heavy blues.
