4 stars They just don't make them like this anymore - even he!
I remember well when I heard "Took the car" for the first time: I was just a teenager and it was on an obscure Polydor compilation, together with "Hey Joe", "Woodoo Chile" and some other heavy sounds. Of course, it was in stark contrast with other songs and it blew my mind even then. What simple but beautiful lyrics it sports! I was so determined to find it, and, some odd 30 years I finally did. Other songs are also very good and in similar vein. His courage and against-the-grain attitude is amazing. He was rewarded with Billboard #22 peak (his best) and it's a shame it is now almost completely forgotten.
