Product Description

Frampton album for sale by Peter Frampton was released Aug 01, 2000 on the Universal Special Products label. A year before he achieved international success with FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE, ex-Humble Pie guitarist Peter Frampton struck gold on his self-titled album. "Show Me the Way" and "Baby, I Love Your Way," tracks that would become smash singles on the live album, may have secured FRAMPTON's place in rock history, but the lesser-known songs are just as fine and memorable. Frampton CD music contains a single disc with 11 songs.   ...See Full Description

Recorded in 1971, shortly before guitarist Peter * left the band, ROCKIN' presents Humble Pie live at New York City's Fillmore East. The British blues-rock group charges through a sweaty, high-octane set (originally released as a double LP) that includes the blistering stompers "Four Day Creep," "Stone Cold Fever," and "I Don't Need No Doctor." Although the entire ensemble is in top form on this seven-song disc, the record is a showcase for the astoundingly powerful vocals of former Small Faces frontman Steve Marriott (who, in his hard-rock mode, prefigures AC/DC's Bon Scott) and the heavy-blues riffage of * (surprisingly enough, the guy could wield an axe), who would, of course, go on to record his own wildly successful concert album later in the decade. Originally released on LP as a double album. Recorded live at The Fillmore East, New York. Personnel: Steve Marriott (vocals, guitar, harmonica, keyboards); Peter * (vocals, guitar); Jerry Shirley (drums). Audio Remixer: Eddie Kramer. Photographers: Joel Brodsky; Randy Alpert; Shepard Sherbell. Arranger: Humble Pie.

After 1970's Looking In album, Peverett, Roger Earl, and Tony Stevens left to form Foghat, leaving Kim Simmonds with yet another dilemma. But for Simmonds, things went a little smoother than he might have imagined, picking up piano player Paul Raymond, bassman Andy Silvester, and drummer Dave Bidwell, all from Chicken Shack. He also hired singer Dave Walker, who was the former frontman with the Idle Race, and together the new lineup recorded Street Corner Talking, one of Savoy Brown's finest moments. Gelling almost instantaneously, Walker's cozy yet fervent voice countered with Simmonds' strong, sturdy guitar playing, and an exuberant mixture of British blues and boogie rock prevailed. All of Street Corner Talking's efforts are solid examples of the group's blues-rock power, from the slick cover of Willie Dixon's "Wang Dang Doodle" to the deep feel of "All I Can Do" to the subtle strength of "Tell Mama," Walker's best-sung tune. The album's blend of sultry guitar blues and upfront rock & roll flavor give it a multi-faceted appeal, with every musician contributing his talents uniformly, which is something that's rather difficult to achieve after there's been a wholesale change to the personnel. Although they stayed together for the Hellbound Train album, Silvester was replaced by Andy Pyle for 1972's Lion's Share release, and a year after that Walker left to join Fleetwood Mac. ~ Mike DeGagne

Fleetwood Mac's massive pop success often overshadows the group's origins as one of the premier English blues bands of the sixties. Mac's 1972 album, BARE TREES, found the group searching for a new direction, having lost both of their stellar lead guitarists--Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer--to the excesses of the '60s rock lifestyle. Joined by new guitarist/vocalist Bob Welch and bassist John McVie's wife Christine on keyboards and vocals, Fleetwood Mac reinvented itself as a more pop-oriented rock band. The ...

SMOKIN' was Humble Pie's first post-Peter * album. Co-founder and blues shouter par excellence Steve Marriott was thoroughly in charge here, and the result was the band's best-selling album. The idiom is basic, straight-ahead Stones/Faces style blues-rock, with occasional forays into Led Zeppelin-style riffage. Highlights include dramatically slowed down versions of Eddie Cochran's "C'mon Everybody," Junior Walker's "Roadrunner," and the wah-wah laden slow blues "The Fixer." "You're So Good for Me," which begins as a delicate acoustic number, ultimately mutates into a full-bore gospel rave-up, and is precisely the sort of thing that the Black Crowes seem to have studied assiduously.

This was the last album by the classic Humble Pie lineup featuring Peter *, who quit shortly after the tour documented on PERFORMANCE--ROCKIN' THE FILLMORE. * departed because of artistic differences with co-founder Steve Marriott--he felt that the acoustic semi-pop songs he favored were being crowded out by a reliance on Led Zeppelin-style guitar rock. ROCK ON, however, is still reasonably split between the two styles. Highlights include *'s melodic and gospel-ish "Shine On," Marriott's Faces-style boogie "79th and Sunset" (featuring the immortal line "There'll be some dramas inside her pajamas tonight"), and a convincing version of Howlin' Wolf's "Rollin' Stone." Recorded at Olympic Sound Studios, London, England in January 1971. Personnel: Steve Marriott (vocals, guitar, harp, harmonica, keyboards); Peter, Peter * (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Greg Ridley (vocals, guitar); Doris Troy, Alexis Korner, P.P. Arnold, Claudia Lennear (vocals); B.J. Cole (steel guitar, pedal steel guitar); Bobby Keys (saxophone); Jerry...

Digitally remastered by Doug Sax (2000, The Mastering Lab, Los Angeles, California). Named after *'s touring band at the time, *'s Camel has a harder-rocking feel than its predecessor Wind of Change, with Mick Gallagher's percussive electric piano and organ taking a prominent position in the mix and * getting a harder sound from his electric guitars (though his acoustic playing is so lush and lyrical that it dominates the album here and there in its quiet way). The sound on this recording lays out the formula that * would take to mega-success three years later with the release of * Comes Alive. The songs are all first-rate or close to it -- included here is the original studio version of the group composition "Do You Feel Like We Do," a quicker-tempo, extended (albeit less majestic) version of which appeared on the latter album and became a...
