The first and still the best of the many Carly Simon compilations available, 1975's THE BEST OF CARLY SIMON is an all-meat, no-filler collection of most of the folk-pop singer/songwriter's best and biggest songs. Looking over the track listing, one is reminded of just how many classic songs Simon was responsible for in the early '70s.
"That's the Way I've Always Heard it Should Be," "The Right Thing to Do," "Haven't Got Time For the Pain," "Anticipation," and of course "You're So Vain" still sound remarkably solid. This is particularly impressive considering the amount of radio time they've all gotten in the intervening decades. Simon's husky voice and smart, piano-based arrangements don't sound nearly as dated as those of many of her contemporaries, and while THE BEST OF CARLY SIMON may qualify as a guilty pleasure in some minds, it's a pleasure nonetheless.
Personnel includes: Carly Simon (vocals, acoustic guitar, piano); James Taylor, Carole King (vocals); Jim Ryan (acoustic & electric guitars, bass); Paul Keough (acoustic guitar); Robbie Robertson, Andrew Gold (guitar); Bobby Keys (tenor & baritone saxophones); Michael Brecker (tenor saxophone); Dr. John (piano, organ); Paul Griffin, Paul Glanz, Nicky Hopkins (piano); Tony Levin, Klaus Voorman, Willie Weeks (bass); Andy Newmark (drums, percussion); Jimmy Johnson, Jim Keltner, Jim Gordon (drums); Ray Cooper, Eddie Bongo (congas); Ralph McDonald, Richard Perry (percussion); Mick Jagger, Liza Strike, Vicki Brown, Carl Hall, Tasha Thomas, Lani Groves, Bonnie Bramlett, Doris Troy, Paul McCartney, Linda McCartney (background vocals).

'Haven't Got Time For The Pain' I always loved Carly Simon; that angelic voice and sweet beauty; yet, she's kind of annoying, and always has been. 'You're So Vain' and 'Anticipation' are, all time, radio classics, but the rest of the whining...please! Really, it's just not worth it. I haven't got time foe the pain, not even for that song, one more time. Submitted by St.Dvy (Windham, Me.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Carly Simon Is The Best! I Love Her Music First Of All I Didn't Know Her First But Now I Do! Submitted by Dan_Ray (New Brunswick,NJ,USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
One of her hottest selling albums ever... This is a great album. I basically love every song that this collection has. I have it on LP, cassette tape, and CD. Every song on here is unforgettable and timeless. I learned that nearly all of the albums of hers that these songs were originally on had won a Grammy. For those of you who like Carly's lovely and beautiful singing voice as well as her music, get this album for your collection if you don't yet have it. It will be worth buying and you won't be disappointed WHATSOEVER!!! Submitted by Matt (Macomb, IL, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Ok hits collection This was the first "greatest hits" lp I purchased, and it was great in the 70's, but a little out of date now. It has a fairly good variety of songs, but with modern technology, could be longer now that we're in living in the age of the compact disc. I recommed her new collection, "Reflections", for a more prescise collection of hits remastered in top quality. Submitted by Janis Ray (West Virginia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Next to his solo debut, GARCIA, Jerry Garcia's REFLECTIONS is probably the strongest album the Grateful Dead's leading light made under his own name. It doesn't hurt that he's got the Dead backing him on half the tracks, but a band made up of both pals and studio vets stands up just as impressively on the rest. Aside from the cover tunes (including a transcendent take on Allen Toussaint's "I'll ...
