On The Border album for sale Product Description
On The Border album for sale by Eagles was released on the Elektra label. ON THE BORDER marked a point of transition for the Eagles, a halfway point between their original country-rock sound and the slick pop-rock they would later embrace. On The Border CD music The arrival of guitarist Don Felder helped eventuate this shift, even as founding member/multi-instrumentalist Bernie Leadon found himself increasingly alienated by the move away from his rootsier orientation. "Midnight Flyer," the smash hit "Already Gone," and Leadon's "My Man," an elegy to Eagles influence Gram Parsons, are the remaining traces of the band's old sound. On The Border CD music contains a single disc. ...See Full Description

| best early eagles this is a good eagles album primarily because it is not dominated by don henley and his often sappy ballads. instead the country rock talents of randy meisener, don felder, and bernie leadon are showcased a bit more, which makes most of this album great. IF YOU'RE looking for country rock that makes the eagles look sick in comparison check out POCO. they're much more talented. henley's ego must've forced the other guys out, because their next album is also good (ONE OF THESE NIGHTS) EXCEPT FOR HENLEY'S STUFF. RANDY MEISENER AND BERNIE LEADON'S CONTIBUTIONS ARE MUCH BETTER, BUT THEY QUIT AFTER THIS. By CHRIS (HIGH DESERT CALIFORNIA) This review is for a different format. |
| Worth crossing the border for! On The Border songs The Eagles' third disc shows them to be in fine form. It gets off to a rousing start with the squealing guitars of "Already Gone." A sensual feel takes over in "You Never Cry Like a Lover," with a great lead vocal by Don Henley. Speaking of great lead vocals, "Midnight Flyer" features bassist Randy Meisner (who made his voice sound just like a train whistle!) as well as the fancy banjo pickin' of Bernie Leadon. He's responsible for the heartfelt tribute to the late Gram Parsons, "My Man," a slow country tune featuring his talents on the pedal steel. "On the Border" has a genuine r&b funk feel, and all this is just on the first half of the disc! "James Dean" rocks hard, in the vein of the first track. Then comes the gorgeous interpretation of Tom Waits' "Ol' 55," with its gently weeping pedal steel guitar. The talents of Randy Meisner on lead vocals and Glenn Frey on slide guitar are prominent on "Is It True." "Good Day in Hell" has the absolutely wicked slide of the then-newest Eagle, Don Felder. Finally, the set is completed with the Eagles' first number one song, a country ballad called "The Best of My Love." What are you waiting for? Cross the border and add this one to your collection today! By K.C. (Oklahoma City, OK, USA) This review is for a different format. |
| Actually quite good! Somehow i feel this is an overlooked gem. It is actually quite good. A lot of good songs you wont find on any of the greatest hits or collections. The only song that made it to airplay is the albums worst song "the best of my love" It is not the best eaglesrecord but it is absolutely worth owning. | Great rock This is my favorite eagles album. It has a heavier rock beat then the earlier albums. Don Felder really was a good addition to the band. James Dean and Good Day in Hell are the best song on it. The only song that good have been spruced up a bit was Ol 55. By a reviewer (detroit mi) This review is for a different format. |
| ON THE BORDER THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS CD IS YOU DON'T HAVE TO FLIP IT OVER, AND IT PLAYS AND FLOWS GREAT. EVERY SONG ON THIS ALBUM IS GREAT. IF YOU WANT TO LISTEN TO EAGLES DON'T LISTEN TO THAT ONE SONG, PUT IT IN AND LISTEN TO EVERY ONE OF THE TRACKS. THE GOOD THING ABOUT THE ALBUMS WAS YOU HAD A LYRIC SHEET AND THESE GUYS AND THEIR FRIENDS WRITE SOME VERY GOOD STUFF. By a reviewer (MORTONS GAP, KY) This review is for a different format. |
